Feb-04-09 | | Jim Bartle: Sort of like me for quite a few far-right youtube videos. |
Feb-04-09 | | Takya Kotov: I actually thought that this was a very entertaining game. Apparently very few others did, judging by the trivial bitchiness going on here. |
Feb-04-09 | | seaotter: I liked the game too, and was following it very closely as well as the Volotkin game. When Volotkitin (sorry about spelling) lost I thought, ok offer a draw and WIN the Tournament,... Hurrah!!! Then I really did not understand what was going on,.. perhaps a 2700+ player just sees it different,... But a draw to win the tournament and you are clearly better and your opponent is down on time? Go Figure. I do not get it, but that is probably why I will remain a Want-to-Be Master all my life,... As I said, Too DEEP for me,... |
Feb-04-09 | | walker: <As I said, Too DEEP for me,...> also for the loser...deep, deep for him too.. |
Feb-04-09 | | blacksburg: <You are being ignored by Nigel Short.> you're being ignored by a lot of other people too. |
Feb-04-09 | | walker: < blacksburg > You are funny. And I am so happy I am not on your ignore list. |
Feb-04-09 | | Everyone: <blacksburg: You are being ignored by Nigel Short.> Whom are you talking with? |
Feb-04-09 | | blacksburg: <Everyone> i don't even remember who i was talking to, i ignored him. but now i'm talking to everyone? this website is confusing. |
Feb-04-09 | | walker: < blacksburg>, is your given name Nigel? |
Feb-04-09 | | PinnedPiece: <walker: Short needs to be adored, not criticised> Quite right. Now get with the program, please!

Feb-04-09 | | PinnedPiece: <Everyone: <blacksburg: You are being ignored by Nigel Short.>
Whom are you talking with?

Humor I can appreciate.

Feb-05-09 | | DUS: <walker: <As I said, Too DEEP for me,...> also for the loser...deep, deep for him too..> I like this TRUE comment of <walker>. |
Feb-05-09 | | PinnedPiece: Then I stirred the pot:
<pinnedPiece:< Nigel Short: To put one thing straight: anyone who imagines that I would deliberately lose a game of chess, for whatever reason, really does not know anything about me at all. >Its a totally ridiculous notion but there are a lot of people out there who don't have the facilities or know-how to deal with the caustic acid of spite and hatred sprayed out by the self-serving and ill-willed. The fact that Obama has been elected in the US tells you the way our electorate is headed in that regard. They can't fend off the barrage of mass media distortions and Democrat Party hatred for conservatism and capitalism. But that's neither here nor there...especially not here.> --Short page (where he should only be adored--<walker>) |
Feb-06-09 | | MarbleSkull: "People playing chess only for money and not for the love of the game should NOT be invited to mayor tournaments IMHO." Yes, and football players shouldn't play for money, but for love of the sport. And brain surgeons should operate for the pure joy of it. Criticizing one chess player because he'd rather make more money in a different tier in the same freaking tournament seems a bit harsh, don't you think? Remember what the Joker said, "If you're good at something, never do it for free." |
Feb-06-09 | | outplayer: This is a strange games with blunders from both sides. I like Short's aggressive style. Unfortunately the final blunder was his. If he had played 57...Qd3+ (I thought this to be a better move when I was seeing the live game and Fritz agrees) he should draw and shared first place with Caruana and Kasimdzhanov. |
Feb-06-09 | | DaveyL: He would have been first outright if he'd drawn. |
Feb-06-09 | | GM GB: People, why are you posting here? Victory for the trolls who hate GM Short. Every time he comes to CG site GM Short will see this game and will be hurt. Lets not post here. Please! |
Feb-06-09 | | Lupara: <GM GB> I have written on other pages, here on CG, that I respect Nigel Short and that he played a magnificent tournament at Corus B 2009. That being said, I cannot comprehend why we (kibitzers) should not post on this page. Did someone communicate to you that GM Short feels hurt when seeing this page on CG? This is not a game that defines a great player's career, especially someone like Nigel Short. His achievements are too vast to simply be defined by this one game. To extrapolate on your conclusion that GM Short will be hurt when seeing this game, it would appear kibitzers should not post on any game page where the person who lost the game "will be hurt" when seeing the game on CG. Does that mean we cannot post to any games lost by GM Short or other GMs, or IMs who visit CG for fear of hurt feelings? Surely, all kibitzers on CG should be able to post on this page as long as they abide by the site's posting guidelines. Indeed, it is somewhat patronizing to scold kibitzers not to post here. If kibitzers wish to post here to express what they think about this game, they should do so without fear of being called trolls or other such silly nonsense. We should also keep in mind that fans of GM Caruana may want to comment on this game simply because it was won by GM Caruana and not for an ulterior motive such as to "hurt" GM Short. We should remember the three Ds of posting to open forums: dialogue, discussion and discourse. Censorship and repression of speech are not part of the three Ds. |
Feb-06-09 | | Jim Bartle: The only specific request I remember from Short was to be referred to by his name (first or last) and not nicknames. |
Feb-07-09 | | GM GB: About the game - yes, but my suggestion was not to make this the unofficial GM Short's page as trolls wanted. |

Kg5 and only then Qb5+ and it's a draw (and 1st place for Short), since White cannot play f5 because Be3 scewers the Queen. That's how the history is made. Poor Short. I hope this won't make him quit playing. Michael Langer>

Aug-02-09 | | walker: <Whitehat1963: Amazing game from Caruana.>
Agree. |
Jul-23-10 | | Rob Morrison: Short misses a likely win at move 47--quite surprising given that that shouldn't have involved time trouble. 47. . . c3xd2! 48. Rc1xc6 d2xe1=N+ 49. K any Ne1xf3 50. Rc6xd6 f5xe4 51. Rd6xa6 and then with three minor pieces against the white rook black should be able to win by jamming the e-pawn down white's throat. |
Nov-05-10 | | sfm: <Rob Morrison: Short misses a likely win at move 47> You are right, though it is much more than a likely win. As far as I can see, White can resign after 47.-,cxd2 |
