Nightsurfer: Thinking back to that match I do remember that I had instantly started to hope for a replay of Morphy's famous "Night at the Opera" at Paris 1858 (Morphy vs Duke Karl / Count Isouard, 1858) when my opponent had resorted to the Philidor variant 3. ... Bg4 at Elmshorn 1975, and I was really disappointed when Mr. Kroeger did not continue 6. ... Nf6 - as Morphy's opponents had chosen to do so in order to counter 6.Bc4 ... at Paris 1858 - , but made up his mind for 6. ... Qf6!? as his way to answer 6.Bc4 ..., and I did not know back then that I would have to wait for 33 more years until the big chance would finally come: an incredible replay of Morphy vs Duke Karl / Count Isouard, 1858 at Hamburg, Germany in 2008, please compare R Gralla vs S Stojanovic, 2008!

Nightsurfer: It is interesting to note that the try to improve Black's play in the <3. ... Bg4>-variant of the Philidor Defense by countering 6.Bc4 ... with 6. ... Qf6!? as <Mr. Herbert Kroeger> has preferred to play here (instead of copying 6. ... Nf6 that Black has tried out on the occasion of Morphy's famous "Night at the Opera" Paris 1858, please compare Morphy vs Duke Karl / Count Isouard, 1858, and during a crazy replay 150 years later at Hamburg, Germany in 2008, please check out R Gralla vs S Stojanovic, 2008), has been tested 35 years later once more again, but that time during the Chess Olympiad (Women) 2010 in Russia, please compare Ana Margarida Ferreira vs Miyanda Mweetwa, 2010, but the outcome was the same back in 2010: ZERO points for Black!

Nightsurfer: After 8.0-0 ... , <Mr. Herbert Kroeger> has pulled his Bishop back from c5 to b6 (8. ... Bb6), whereas 35 years after this very match here - namely when the same position has been put on the board during the Chess Olympiad (Women) at Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia in 2010! - , Black has tried out 8. ... b6 as an alternative - sort of! - , please compare Ana Margarida Ferreira vs Miyanda Mweetwa, 2010 , but that didn't make a big difference. In 2010 <Ms. Miyanda Mweetwa> only hold out 5 moves longer until she was forced to resign after White move no. 22 - whereas <Mr. Herbert Kroeger> already threw in the towel after White move no. 17! A real catastrophe!
May-04-13  Helmsch: I happened to see this game and opened it as I know Herbert as well. I was positively surprised to find the picture that showed my father (Adolf), Klaus, Herbert and you. It was on the wall of my parents living room for decades until recently.
