tamar: A win in classical is worth 10 bragging points.

A win in rapid 4
A win in Blind 6

So Magnus still trails in BP.

perfidious: As to who is ahead of whom, there's a lot of hot air blown about on the basis of three games-maybe we'd best see a slightly larger sample size before leaping to conclusions.

Of course, those who hate Carlsen (and it seems there are a few here on CG) will grasp at any straws to support their POV.

Come back to this particular argument when they've played enough games to make comparisons worthwhile; till then, it hasn't got any meaning.

Penguincw: < amaurobius > < tamar > Well.Let's put it this away.Giri had a 100% score against Carlsen before the Amber tournament. But,if Giri wants to even maintain a plus score against Carlsen, then he has to be a lot more careful.
Mar-16-11  wordfunph: "My opponent tomorrow is the 16 year old Giri, and I will certainly be eager to gain revenge from my dreadful (I cannot think of a nicer word :) loss against him in Wijk aan Zee earlier this year."

- Magnus Carlsen

...and mission accomplished 0-1!

Mar-16-11  sevenseaman: A tough... and patient grind out.
Mar-16-11  fab4: After move thirteen I would raise a question mark about Giri's idea of swinging the QN over to the KS with Ne2/f4. It doesn't look right.

And on playing 16.Ng5 18..Ne4! just refutes the whole idea.

Mar-16-11  amaurobius: <A win in classical is worth 10 bragging points.

A win in rapid 4
A win in Blind 6>

Thanks <tamar> - sounds reasonable. Is this widely recognised?

Mar-16-11  rogge: I'd say classical 10, rapid 3, blindfold 2, blitz 1
Mar-16-11  amaurobius: < KKDEREK: I just don't remember Carlsen been outplayed lately in endgames. Might have happened , but is very rare, for sure..>

Carlsen vs I Nepomniachtchi, 2011 perhaps? Though arguably it was late middle rather than endgame where he was outplayed.

Mar-16-11  PJ chess player: Carlsen played 18... Ne4! and after changing the queens, he had better position and beat Giri. Nice game!
Mar-16-11  fab4: <PJ chess player: Carlsen played 18... Ne4! and after changing the queens, he had better position and beat Giri. Nice game!>

Thanks PJ.. anything new to add though ?!..

Because if you read down a few posts, this has already been said.

Mar-16-11  Lennonfan: <fabster>...this may be slightly off topic, but i need your advice my young "friend"...my nephew wants a power ranger for his birthday...which is the bestest, strongestest, power ranger at the moment?? And the cheapestestest obviously? And *on topic* why would anyone on this site listen to the advice and insults of a middle/upper class, spoilt little kid who's more worried about getting bullied at school than he knows about chess??
Mar-16-11  Fanques Fair: This is a dutch defense, never heard about "Kangoroo Defense ", but it´s obviously a dutch vatiation !
Mar-16-11  TheFocus: Originally, 1.d4 e6 2.c4 Bb4+ was known as the Keres Defense (also Franco-Indian Defense). Never heard it called the Kangaroo Defense.
Mar-16-11  Akavall: < KKDEREK: I just don't remember Carlsen been outplayed lately in endgames. Might have happened , but is very rare, for sure..>

Here is one recent example:

Carlsen vs Anand, 2010

Mar-16-11  Lennonfan: There's one against adams not so long back also if i remember rightly!!

  tpstar: 32. Nxe5?! a6:

Black wins the exchange after 33. Nxd3 axb5, or White could try 33. Nc4 axb5 34. Nxd6 bxa4 which looks very good for Black.

Jun-15-11  onky1995: great
Aug-25-12  jmboutiere: These days Carlsen has only 7 point to reach the best ever ELO result (2850)in the history of chess !!! Respect.
Sep-03-17  iron john: why not 20.d5 ?
