May-28-19  newzild: Terrible play from White - lower club level stuff.

8. d5?
12. Nbc3?

Struggling to see why this is game of the day.

May-28-19  Count Wedgemore: Yes, weak game and weak pun. <OCF> can do better.
May-28-19  OrangeTulip: pun over quality. It is time to say goodbye to the Pun of the Day

Struggling to see why this is game of the day.>

Games of the day aren't always chosen for their quality—although they are frequently reviewed for such purposes.

Whenever we approve a member's submission without evaluating the quality of the game, it often comes back to bite us.

Having said that, and inasmuch as the vast majority of GOTD selections are decisive games, and thus (almost by definition) will include a mistake by at least one player, opinions about <game> quality can vary as much as they do regarding <pun> quality—which I thought was fine in this case...

I'm a frayed knot...

May-28-19  goodevans: Really good GOTDs with really good puns are a rarity but here's one: Caruana vs Korchnoi, 2011

OhioChessFan: No, not my best, but <I don't decide which get selected!> I have 70 some better but they haven't been used.

Fusilli: I don't mind the pun, but the game is terrible.
May-28-19  dumbgai: Agree with <Fusilli> above. White played very poorly and quickly lost without putting up any fight.
