Natalia Pogonina: This is a very popular position nowadays; mainstream line. Let's wait for a few more moves before discussing the plans.
May-23-12  Octavia: Would it annoy Vishy that Boris turned his chair so the back looks at the board? I hope it annoys him enough to play his best & not the other way around.

Natalia Pogonina: Gelfand is looking very tense and red. Maybe he didn't prepare much against this line?

kingscrusher: IQP (Isolated Queen Pawn) games are often fun. Beats having a symmetrical pawn structure. White might even try to make use of the IQP for a Kingside attack later. Semi open e-file, use of e5 - maybe reroute the bishop for the d3-h7 diagonal.
May-23-12  queenfortwopawns: <Natalia Pogonina: The stereotype is that Anand handles defeats pretty badly, while Gelfand is more resistant.>

That's interesting, given Anand came back from a pretty bad first round loss to Topalov quite well.

May-23-12  Ulhumbrus: I don't know whether it would improve a chess master's performance if he were to wear formal dress with whatever the form is, as might a conductor of an orchestra at the Albert hall.

Richard Taylor: He is playing "book" so to speak. I think he goes red when he thinks he has a good chance of a good attacking position

Natalia Pogonina: Black needs to choose the pawn structure: isolated queen pawn after ♘d7 or hanging pawns after ♗xc3. Anand is thinking.

Richard Taylor: Ne5 now is the main move on CG OE
May-23-12  Ulhumbrus: One famous example of a game which Black won by using the formation of the present game is the game Portisch vs Karpov, 1978
May-23-12  GiuocoPianoMan: <RICHARD TAYLOR> What is the title of the Reshevsky book on blunders?

Natalia Pogonina: <Richard Taylor> ♖ac1 is actually more popular. Now after ♗xc3 White can capture with the rook. ♘e5 is in the air.

I'll get it shortly and tell you. It was written in descriptive notation

May-23-12  Hesam7: The position after 12. Rac1 scores extremely well for Black in CG.com database.
