Kibitzer's Corner
Nov-16-15  Marmot PFL: The seventh or so time Adams played the Ruy vs Aronian, and his first win.
Nov-16-15  luzhin: A game in Adams's best style. I think 18.Bxe7 is new: Karjakin played 18.Bf4 in this position, but only drew. Perhaps Aronian should have played 25...f6: as the game went, Black was trapped in Spiderman's web.
Nov-16-15  Marmot PFL: After 34 Ke4 and 35 Rf3 threatening Rf6# the black king would be stuck in the spider web.
Nov-16-15  galdur: “Will you walk into my parlor?” said the spider to the fly; “’Tis the prettiest little parlor that ever you did spy. The way into my parlor is up a winding stair,
And I have many pretty things to show when you are there.”
Nov-16-15  shintaro go: Spider strikes again. The roller coaster ride continues for Levon.
Nov-16-15  shintaro go: 22...c5 might be the losing move?
Nov-16-15  luzhin: I believe this is Adams' first win against Aronian in classical chess, which makes it doubly satisfying.
Nov-16-15  Everett: Seems Adams will never go away. Such a solid and crafty player.

chancho: A case of Adamsnophobia for poor Levon!
Nov-17-15  EhsanBalani: Was 33...Rb2 a blunder?
Nov-17-15  Sularus: <EhsanBalani> I think so.

I'd wager even white's last move (Ke4) is a mistake but not fatal.

Nov-17-15  galdur: <Sularus> It doesn´t really matter. He wins the knight, (or if black saves the knisht it´s lost anyway), gives up one of the rooks for the pawn and is soon 4 pawns up.
Nov-17-15  starry2013: e4 could have been arbiter to signify white win anyway.

Domdaniel: A very efficient win: Adams makes it look inevitable. The comments here by <Luzhin> are apt.

Funny, though, that Aronian can beat the World Champion in one game, and then promptly lose to an English GM who, for all his fine qualities, is not really in the championship class.

Nov-17-15  starry2013: Adams has been playing very well recently, at the European Club tournament he had a very good performance rating. The major difference between those in the 2770s and those just below is consistency from tournament to tournament.
Nov-18-15  Calli: Subtle play by Adams. 21. b4 and so on. Aronian's Rook looks on helplessly at h4. My guess is that we will soon see an earlier a5 by Black in this line. Or perhaps he can just avoid playing Rh5 altogether.
Nov-20-15  Ulhumbrus: 19...Rd8? makes a target of the rook and of the d5 pawn and invites the attack c4, because White has superior force on the d file. An alternative is the manoeuvre ...Rh5-h8-d8

I thought I heard Aronian, in one of the press conferences at the Candidates, mention a game in which he was mysteriously outplayed by Adams several years ago.
