This game was played in a 100 board team match pitting the <Riga Professional Association> against the <Riga Municipal Officials>.

The <Professional Association>, which was defeated 48:52 by the <Municipal Officials> last year, mobilized all their strong players to win the challenge cup this year. After seven hours of fighting, they were able to notch a decisive victory with 64.5:35.5.

Top boards for the <Professional Association>: Zigfrids Solmanis, Georg Hodakowsky, Georgs Meiers and Ernests Gize.

Top boards for the <Municipal Officials>: Grandmaster Vladimir Petrov, Augusts Strautmanis, Leonids Dreibergs, and Karlis Alexander Ozols.

Milda Lauberte had earned her master title by winning the 1937 woman's championship. She did not play in the 1938 woman's championship, won by Eliza Fogele, because she competed in the men's championship that year.
