Richard Kussman: <My father was a much better player than either my grandfather or me. At the time he played against Alekhine he was the National Federation College champion. He was born in Geneva, Switzerland on 21 December 1907 and died in New York City on 13 March 1975.>

He graduated from Morris High School of New York in 1925 and became a member of the Manhattan Chess Club in 1926.
