Jose Thiago Mangini was born in Rio de Janeiro. He was Brazilian Champion in 1950 and 1956. In addition to being a Chess Master, he was a dental surgeon and collaborator of several Chess magazines and maintained for many years a weekly chess column in the newspaper "O GLOBO", in addition to being President of the current Chess Federation of Rio de Janeiro founded in the late 70's

Mar-11-16  luftforlife: FIDE Master and two-time winner of the Carioca Championship José Eduardo Bastos de Oliveira Maia has posted a photograph of revered champion José Thiago Mangini on his blog:

There is some dispute over the number of Carioca Championships won by "the champion of champions," Mangini: FM Maia counts nine, but Brazilian author and journalist Waldemar S. Costa has Mangini winning a staggering eleven times -- in 1947, 1950-54, 1956, 1963-64, 1966, and 1970.
