Mar-19-07  sneaky pete: Bernard Wolff Beffie, born May 18, 1872, died in a nazi concentration camp in the summer of 1943. Medical doctor by profession. Reputed to have known Dr Tarrasch's "Driehundert Schachpartien" by heart.
Mar-19-07  chessamateur: This guy got a draw with Euwe, Impressive.
Jul-23-08  sneaky pete: Eponymia: Dr Beffie worked as a venereal disease specialist in a hospital in the centre of Amsterdam, not far from the Red Light District. In certain circles at the time a <Dr Beffie> was the slang synonym for a venereal disease.
