Benzol: The player partnering Lasker here is Isaac Leopold Rice. He was an industrialist who put up large amounts of money for his gambit invention (the Rice Gambit) 1.e4 e5 2.f4 exf4 3.♘f3 g5 4.h4 g4 5.♘e5 ♘f6 6.♗c4 d5 7.exd5 ♗d6 8.0-0 in a number of Rice Gambit tournaments.

In a match in Brighton, England in 1903 Emanuel Lasker and Mikhail Chigorin played six games to test the gambit out. Mikhail Chigorin won (+2, =3, -1).

http://chesshistory.com/winter/wint...

Born February-22-1850 in Wachenheim, Germany.
Died on November-2-1915.
He grew up in the USA after his family emigrated there and married Julia Hyneman Barnett in 1885 (they got six children). In 1886 he specialized on railroad law. He has been a great chess patron so he should not only be known for the Rice gambit.

Followed by a baked, er, Lasker.
