Tabanus: He played for the Stockholm chess club "Schack-27" and passed away in or before 1990 (TfS 1990 p. 426).

In 1951 he ended last in the Stockholm club tournament (top group): http://www.schack.se/tfs/history/19... (page 3).

In 1952 he was an assistant during the Stockholm Interzonal (he is mentioned in Ståhlberg's tournament book).

He played in the ICCF semifinal V, 1962, mentioned here: http://www.schack.se/tfs/history/19... (page 26).

http://www.iccf-webchess.com/event?... (1986-1990) is his last ICCF tournament.

Rune Strand is almost like "John Smith" and it's hard to find certain information. Especially since the Swedes don't put online information on deaths.

Tabanus: <valiant> Yes, Olov Strand, also in Schack-27, was his elder brother and died some time after Rune.
Jan-24-14  Appaz: <<Tabanus> Rune Strand is almost like "John Smith">

"Rune" is currently the 74th most popular name in Sweden (http://www.scb.se/sv_/Hitta-statist...) while "Strand" is not even in top 100 (http://www.scb.se/sv_/Hitta-statist...) so I doubt that is a valid comparison.

I didn't find a way to do a search for "Rune Strand", but you can cross the border to Norway and find 35 of them: http://ssb.no/befolkning/statistikk... ->"Navnesøk"
