 | | MissScarlett: I fear <Sargon> will be furious when he sees that - sometime at the weekend probably - and might target me for retribution. #bringit! |
|
Oct-28-20
 | | Susan Freeman: <MissScarlett> It will go unnoticed, I predict. :) |
|
Oct-28-20
 | | Tabanus: When Sargon is on it, please also ask him to add the 15 missing games of St. Louis Rapid & Blitz (2020). |
|
Oct-28-20
 | | MissScarlett: Seems grossly unfair that players whose exact birth date isn't known cannot be <Player of the Day>. I suggest rectifying this by honouring Howard Staunton as <POTD> in the near future. #fatherofmodernchess |

Oct-29-20
 | | Susan Freeman: <MissScarlett> I think that is a superb idea. Some day in the month of April. |
|
Oct-29-20
 | | MissScarlett: I was thinking tomorrow. |
|
Oct-30-20
 | | Susan Freeman: Does anyone even know when his birthday is? Rumour has it as April Fool’s Day. |
|
Oct-30-20 | | diceman: <MissScarlett: Seems grossly unfair that players whose exact birth date isn't known cannot be <Player of the Day>.> Just make it:
<Player of the Day, Give or Take a Few Years> |

 | | Tabanus: <Spot an error? Please suggest your correction and help us eliminate database mistakes!> That's been a lie now for 2,5 months, ever since Annie left. Instead, a string of new errors are being produced, such as St. Louis Rapid & Blitz (2020) and the five US Championship events. Before Annie, Sargon used to process slips. Until Daniel decided to fire him and do it himself. Now there is a complete lockout. |

 | | Susan Freeman: Olga Viewer: There was no stream this week - Next week I am aiming for release candidate 1! I will be talking more about that on Wednesday.
For now please give the new features a test and provide some feedback. <https://protozefoss.github.io/> New Features:
**Persistent storage of Olga 2 colors (cookie)
**More colors for themes and game score size slider (this has issues at the moment). ** New layout work on mobile (Portrait has a new "side by side" technique for the header). ** Improvements to header data display
**Multiple Games support for "Sets" which will be a way to share entire game sets with a unique name and date (set creation date). ** Oh did I say support for Chess960 games? Come see them, they are games 3-6 I believe. The games being tested can be found
RAW PGN (sort of):
https://raw.githubusercontent.com/P...
Game Sources:
<https://github.com/ProtozeFOSS/Olga... To change games look for the arrows at the top right of the header. From Chris Dean, creator of Olga.
I can hardly wait to check it out. :) |

<Susan Freeman> At first I thought YOU were secretly Olga! That would have been a great reveal eh especially for Halloween night. Here is a protip on a good method to post somebody else's post and move it somewhere else. My good cg.com friend (Mr. I literally can't remember his name now) taught me how do do this: 1. Right mouse click on the date of the original post. 2. Then scroll to <copy link address> on the drop down menu and left click on it. 3. Now go to your target destination and right click in the kibbutzing box. 4. Next, select <paste> from the drop down menu and left click. Now, you will get this here:
Olga Viewer chessforum (kibitz #265) Anyone who clicks on that link will be carried instantly to the original post. |

 | | saffuna: Could there be a page for the Netflix series "The Queen's Gambit"? Or an existing page we could use? It's a pretty good show (overlooking obvious flaws) and uses real games, which have been pointed out and analyzed on youtube and probably other places. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen:
<Jim> I also enjoyed that show. It was the first chess movie I ever saw that showed the moves correctly, and didn't end every sequence with CHECK MATE. According to "Vulture," <Bruce Pandolfini>, <Garry Kasparov> and <A team of Germans> provided technical consultation. Intriguingly, the non-chess related film "The Bridge at Remagen" also featured <A team of Germans>... |

 | | jessicafischerqueen:
<Jim> Just "thinking" out loud, but isn't there an actual <Queen's Gambit> page at cg.com? I think all the openings might have their own page, but tbh I have never actually checked. |
|
Nov-01-20
 | | saffuna: <jfq> Yes, but already having helped hijack both the Rogoff and Lim pages, I am hesitant to do the same again with the QG page without approval. Can there be a page for a fictional player? A "Beth Harmon" page? Related to the show: how were ratings calculated in the early 60s? |
|
Nov-01-20
 | | chancho: Chess elo Ratings began in 1970, no? |
|
Nov-01-20
 | | chancho: Oh ok. 1960 by the USCF, 1970 by FIDE. |

 | | jessicafischerqueen:
<Jim> lol we already have pages for fictional games and at least one fictional player. We got a lot of stick from Olimpiu Urcan for this, if you remember. All of it justified, in my opinion. Three players here that I think should be deleted for the reason that no reliable source for any of their "chess games" has ever been offered. In fact, if you check the pgns on "view game" and bios and the kibbutzing for each game/player, you will find that <no> source of any kind has ever been offered. Robert Oppenheimer and also his spurious doppelganger here Oppenheimer Both should be deleted.
===================
Albert Einstein Should be deleted.
===============
Santa Claus Should be deleted. And his little dog too.
Actually if you read Santa's biography you will see he at least is doing some good at this website. On the other hand, all he gave me for Christmas last year was a 40 year old "Popeil Pocket Fisherman." Delete. |

Nov-01-20
 | | saffuna: In any case, there could be some very interesting discussions about "The Queen's Gambit." |
|
Nov-01-20
 | | chancho: My wife enjoyed that series more than I did.
But it was well done in terms of the games and openings.Borkov reminded me of Paul keres. |
|
Nov-01-20 | | technical draw: <saffuna>< "The Queen's Gambit."> I saw that title in my Netflix list and I was wondering if it had anything to do with chess. Apparently so. |
|
Nov-01-20
 | | saffuna: <Borkov reminded me of Paul keres.>
i've only seen three episodes so far. |
|
Nov-02-20
 | | Susan Freeman: <technical draw> it was a good series. I like the part where she declined the draw and Won. |
