Jul-31-08 | | percyblakeney: Poor Dominguez, few players have been congratulated to winning a tournament so many times over a couple of days to end up second. |
Jul-31-08 | | randzo: congratulation to Allekseev and oslo Dominguez to his play before final round |
Jul-31-08 | | DCP23: 2nd blitz game 0-1! Alekseev wins Biel! |
Jul-31-08 | | percyblakeney: If the transmission was correct 36. Bxe3 was winning for Dominguez. |
Jul-31-08 | | 17.Bxg7: Congrats to Alekseev for winning Biel. Very interprising play by the Russian after the sac 28..Nxh3. Despite achieving a winning position, Leinier couldn't found the best continuation in time trouble and blundered... Alekseev's time management was better and the Cuban lost another tiebreak definition in his career (together with the two painful loses against Carlsen and Radjabov in FIDE World Cup) What a shame for Dominguez, especially the way he played his last two classical games, still, a very good result. |
Jul-31-08 | | DCP23: That 2nd blitz was really something special. Pieces flying all over, tactical fireworks galore. |
Jul-31-08 | | Rolfo: Congratulations to the winner! Quite an interesting tourney! |
Jul-31-08 | | DCP23: Told you Alekseev is a very tough customer in tiebreaks! That's how he got past Jakovenko to win the Russian Championship. |
Jul-31-08 | | solskytz: the tiebreaks and 'winning the competition' is simply fun for the watchers. Only the classical games count for any serious consideration. |
Jul-31-08 | | Microdot: 36.Bxe3,Rxe3 37.Qxc4!
if 37...Rxf3+ 38.gxf3,Qxf3+ 39.Ke1 was winning for white.
But ofcourse in a blitz game attack is more important than material,
as a Rus Alekseev know how to play in blitz!!
Congrats to Alekseev!! |
Jul-31-08 | | vanytchouck: according to Fritz 10 :
at 35...Be3, white was winning 2,99 after 36. Bxe3. But after 36.Bxc4 ?? Alekseev was winning 4,44.
But have to make it "think" longer. |
Jul-31-08 | | Microdot: By the way, I think 34.Qf3! was a very simple and solid move I find it in less than one second. |
Jul-31-08
 | | chancho: Dominguez blew a win against Carlsen, and today missed 36.Bxe3. Too bad for the Cuban.
It could have all been so different. |
Jul-31-08 | | malthrope: Well let me at the very least correct my previous error... Congrats to <GM Evgeny Alekseev> the new Biel Chess Champion 2008!! :)) |
Jul-31-08 | | SanChess: Painful experience for LD: disaster struck on the very last day of what was virtually a won tournament. Alekseev, wow! What a fighter. He is the player with most wins, including the ones over the two previous leaders. Amazing. |

Jul-31-08 | | minasina: <e4ia: Hi Microdot ... here's best deal on new Ryb 3.0 free shipping too! http://www.wholesalechess.com/new?S... > I think that ChessOk has at least as good deal as Wholesale Chess can offer. Anyway here's more options ("normal"/Deep with UCI, or "normal"/Deep with Aquarium; and you can also save something if you download those programs, not get CD or DVD):

Jul-31-08 | | messachess: to all my readers:--no time for rnd. 10 today, sorry ;-) |
Jul-31-08 | | minasina: ...and of course if are interested in <Rybka> AND <Chess Assistant 10> (see my previous post) |
Jul-31-08 | | Ezzy: Congrats to Alekseev and Dominguez. Alekseev will take home the trophy but it's difficult to accept that they are not joint winners of Biel. What is more painful is that Dominguez beat Alekseev with black in their individual game. Probably more painful is that he couldn't draw his last game to win the tourney outright. Anyway, it was an exciting tournment with some good games. I suppose everyone thought Magnus would walk away with the tournament, but these players are top notch players and will not crack easily. He still had a good tourney though, and plays such exciting chess. Still the player to be feared. Amazing second half of the tourney by Bacrot. Pelletier was completely out of his depth this time. I am sure Dominguez-Perez will get more chances in round robin events after this. It's good to have another name in our imagination. I lost many chessbucks on this tourney. I had Carlsen to win with Bacrot second, and also Carlsen to score 7 points. I'm sure most people lost on this tourney. |
Jul-31-08 | | shr0pshire: Congrats to Alekseev for not only winning the tournament, but also for his win against Carlsen. I think Onischuk needs to take some time off and retool his game. He is getting beat up recently on the international scene. |
