Jun-20-07 | | nescio: A charming side-event was the "90+ national championship", won by the youngest participant, my old rival Dirk Appel (91 years old) ahead of De Koning (92), Van Hulst (96) and Wientjes (96). [Event "NK 90+ 2007"]

 | | lostemperor: Van Wely is not playing in the Dutch championships because he has an arguement with the Dutch chess federation. First he did not get first board, as the reigning Dutch champion, in the Olypiad, simply because he wasn't the highest rated (Sokolov was). And secondly he found out later that Sokolov and Tiviakov were getting starting fees for last year championship while he was not. |
|
Jun-22-07 | | PaulKeres: Another good win for Stellwagen yesterday in a really exciting French Winawer. BAd result for L'Ami against Tivi though. Go Youth! I want both Stellwagen and L'Ami to do well! As a side issue van Wely had a very nice win in the Aerosvit at the same time yesterday against Jakovenko. He sacced in knight, and beautifully won! it was a very nice game, he made Jak look like a patzer, which is really saying something. Oh, thanks <lostemperor>, i didn't know that, that's interesting. |

Jun-22-07 | | Wild Bill: And a piece of news from the ladies' competition, the Bensdorp twins met in first round. They did not play seven or ten moves into an Italian Game and call it a draw. Marlies, playing White, defeated Laura in 52 moves. [Event "ch-NED w"]

Jun-24-07 | | refutor: any results on the games today? |
|
Jun-26-07 | | Wild Bill: Stellwagen and the defending champ, Tiviakov, are tied for the lead. Peng need only avoid loss in either of her last two game to win her eighth straight ladies' championship. Arlette van Weesel held her to a draw today, become the first person in the event not to lose to Mw. Peng. |

Jun-27-07 | | PhilFeeley: Is anybody watching the Stellwagen game today? It's reached this critical position: click for larger view
Stellwagen-Janssen
White to move. Can he win or only draw? |
|
Jun-27-07 | | PhilFeeley: An extremely interesting position, the moves since the one I posted (after move 35) were:
36. Bc3 Qf5
37. Nd7+ Kg8
38. Nf6+ Kg7
39. Qg2 Kg6
40. g4 Qf4
41. Re6 Qc1+
42. Kh2 ...
Lots of play left yet! |
|
Jun-27-07 | | PhilFeeley: Nicely done Stellwagen! The remaining moves:
42... Qf4+
43. Kh3 Qc4
44. f4 Qd3+
45. Kh4 Re7
46. f5+ Kf7
47. Qa8 Qb5
48. Rxe7+ Kxe7
49. Qa7+ Kd8
50. Ba5+ 1-0
Nice deflection at the end. |
|
Jun-28-07 | | PaulKeres: All finishes today, and the game of the round is perhaps Tiviakov against Sokolov. If Sokolov can hold him to a draw and Stellwagen can beat Hendriks (the lowest rated player in the field and nearly 200 fide pts less than Daniel) then Daniel will be the new Dutch champion. I hope this happens!! |
|
Jun-28-07 | | PhilFeeley: A Stellwagen win today doesn't look easy. They've already reached this endgame: click for larger viewBlack (Stellwagen) to move... |
|
Jun-28-07 | | PhilFeeley: Both Sellwagen and Tiviakov won today. I don't know what the tie-break is. |
|
Jun-28-07 | | nescio: <PhilFeeley: Both Sellwagen and Tiviakov won today. I don't know what the tie-break is.> 1/2-1/2 both, but still joint winners. If I have understood the tournament rules they should play a blitz play-off later today. |
|
Jun-28-07 | | Alphastar: Blitz play-offs ended 1.5-0.5 in Tiviakov's favor. |
|
Jun-28-07 | | Timex: Wiel drew all his games!! |
