Dec-15-12 | | Jason Frost: Congrats to Fressinet on the surprising win in the rapids. Final Standings:
http://sportaccord2012.fide.com/en/... Top 5:
Fressinet 5.5 (+4 =3 -0)
Naka 5.5 (+5 =1 -1)
Grischuk 4.5 (+3 =3 -1)
Liren 4.5 (+4 =1 -2)
Moro 4 (+3 =2 -2)
Radjabov 4 (+3 =2 -2)
With Fressinet deservedly taking #1 on official tiebreaks (having beat Naka in their encounter). |
|
Dec-15-12 | | Refused: Idd congratulations to GM Fressinet.
Surprising winner.
On a different note, Aronian is really in a poor form atm. |

 | | chessgames.com: We have to clean up the official site's PGN a bit. We'll try to get the games online as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience. |
|
Dec-15-12 | | timhortons: thanks for the coverage cg... |
|
Dec-15-12 | | chessmoron: <chessgames.com> Go to http://mindgames2012.live.whychess.... to have round 5-7 PGNs. |

Dec-15-12 | | Jason Frost: <messachess: Here is my prediction: the match challenger for wc next cycle will come from China, and the next and the next. That many players showing this much talent already will be like the Russia of the old Soviet Union: nothing to do but play chess.> You mean next challenger after Carlsen holds it for 50 years? |
|
Dec-17-12 | | ben10: How come Asia's best (i.e. the winner of the ACC two times in a row) is not invited? He was best during the World Open Blitz too.
I smell foul odor:http://www.google.com.ph/search?hl=... Where did those blitz rating come from? I thought you start from zero when you begin counting...Did FIDE actually adopt their classical elo rating for their initial blitz rating? <chessmoron>, you're a genius compared to FIDE in my opinion. When you want good laws, you go to the United Nations....When you want ridiculous ones, you go to the World Chess Federation. |
|
Dec-17-12 | | ben10: I predict the next exemplary thing FIDE would do is to release their monthly blitz ranking and declare these players on top of the leaderboard. They not only give them a headstart for the bogus initial score rating...now Chinese sponsors joins the fray by giving them a grand pampering. Que Barbaridad! Is it the end of the world:http://youtu.be/qnWpUsrQL1g |

 | | Troller: <ben10: How come Asia's best is not invited?> Highest ranking Asian is not here, that is true. Second-highest ranked Asian Wang Hao is playing, then #3 Le is not here, but #4 Ding Liren is. I don't know if Anand or Le was invited though. It is probably reasonable to assume that the organizers were interested in having at least two Chinese players on home field. Note that the organizer is <SportAccord>, not fide, the latter merely endorses the event. The homepage has this to say about the players:
<The elite selection of invited participants and solid prizes are important features of the event.>
...which does not make us much the wiser. |
|
Dec-17-12 | | Dr. Funkenstein: Fressinet's on fire! 7 games against 2700+ opposition in rapids and no losses. Thanks for bringing us the games cg.com |
|
Dec-17-12 | | ben10: Highest ranking in classical rating you mean...but this is blitz- a totally different creature. They're inviting the carabaos to a horse race. What a convulated state of affairs. FIDE endorsing a closed tourney- nothing is new. While the sponsors continue to indulge in the crime of pampering, FIDE the policeman would look away...where's my envelope? he would later say. It's worst that I expected. Not only had the aliens invaded CG and taken almost all kibitzers as hosts, the legion of demons possessed all it could find...those who thought they were lucky to escape were infected by the pampering virus and became a horde of living dead. |

Dec-17-12 | | Jason Frost: <ben10> As much as I love bashing FIDE ... What are you talking about!? A: Even if you don't include Russia, Azerbaijan, and Armenia in Asia, the #1 Asian player, Wang Hao, was invited. Besides which, he won the Rapid event last year so he is clearly a deserving nominee B: FIDE blitz and rapid ratings at this stage are completely meaningless, since there simply hasn't been enough time since their inception for all top players to gain any meaningful sample size in blitz and rapid games. Which is exactly why FIDE does not currently show a top players list for rapid and blitz ratings. C: Saying this tournament is held in Asia is like saying it's held in the world, it's meaningless. The organizers are Chinese so naturally they want to get interest from Chinese fans. Just like, the LCC organizers want to draw British fans by inviting British players, Wijk ana Zee organizers want to draw fans from the Neatherlands by inviting players from there, etc... |

Dec-17-12 | | timhortons: many are closing their eyes to sponsors not giving equal chances to deserving players. i can say, their are those who are nobody now in the buttom list that suppose to rank from 1-20, but they were not given a chance. selected few who are same people over and over again are invited in tournament with big purse with player with huge elo. the ranking is a bogus, only few players in top 10 desrved to be their. |
|
Dec-17-12 | | timhortons: moro and ivanchuk are old people, for pete sake why they are again and again in tournament like these. |
|
Dec-17-12 | | Jim Bartle: Ivanchuk and Morozevich are exciting, original and unpredictable players. Good choices for a rapid tournament. |
|
Dec-17-12 | | moppa: ben10 is just supposedly coming to a FIDE cospiracy against true barracudas ;) |
|
Dec-17-12 | | Jason Frost: <timhortons> I suppose add a D to my list. D: You have categorically no idea who was invited and who wasn't. e.g. Carlsen likely got an invite, which he obviously declined. And I'm sure Kramnik got an invite as well though I suppose you would call him another <old> person. |
|
Dec-17-12
 | | keypusher: <Jason Frost: <ben10> As much as I love bashing FIDE ... What are you talking about!?> Welcome to the world of the (Wesley) So-bot. <ben10> has posted under a horde of different handles, all on the theme that FIDE pampers certain players and oppresses Wesley So. Sobotlandia is disorienting at first, but quickly becomes tiresome and dull. |
|
Dec-17-12 | | Valmy: ASAIK, the #1 rated player in ASIA is ANAND and not WANG HAO. |
|
Dec-17-12 | | Jason Frost: <Valmy: ASAIK, the #1 rated player in ASIA is ANAND and not WANG HAO.> Woops, not sure how I glanced over him. Though, like Carlsen and Kramnik, I'm sure he got an invite which he turned down. |
|
Dec-17-12 | | Absentee: <timhortons: many are closing their eyes to sponsors not giving equal chances to deserving players.> Haha, now you're spamming here too? What a joke. |
|
Dec-17-12 | | Jason Frost: Blitz results now in as well.
http://sportaccord2012.fide.com/en/... 1. Karjakin (+12 =1 -2)
2. Naka (+9 =4 -2)
3. Mamedyarov (+6 =6 -3) [3 on tiebreaks)
3. Aronian (+6 =6 -3)
3. Fressinet (+8 =2 -5)
Amazing result by Karjakin who beat every single player not named Naka, Fressinet, or Mamedyarov. Also nice bounceback from Mamedyarov and Aronian and again a very strong result from Fressinet, who is clearly in superb form and underrated by quite a bit, especially in *cough* <Blitz> (2653). |
|
Dec-17-12 | | 14DogKnight: what were the time controls in rapid and blitz? |
|
Dec-17-12 | | Jason Frost: <14DogKnight> Assuming it's the same as past years Rapid: 20+10
Blitz: 3+2
Blind: 20+20 |
|
Dec-17-12 | | hellopolgar: i have a feeling that Wesley So will never get invited to any tournament besides SPICE cup. |
