Jan-01-06  ARMENIA: <hidude> Kamsky is not an American! He only plays for America!
Jan-01-06  yoozum: <<hidude> Kamsky is not an American! He only plays for America!>

So then Nakamura also isn't American, by your logic. Kamsky has been here even longer than Nakamura.

Jan-01-06  EmperorAtahualpa: Oh great, there's a page already for the Corus Chess tournament!

I will probably go on Sunday January 15 to Wijk aan Zee to see some games there myself. I can't wait!

I will also take my camera with me.. I hope to take some excellent pictures of the players! And of course I will submit them to <chessgames.com> once I have them, perhaps they can be added to the website!

Right now, my predictions for the final result of the tournament are:

1: Topalov
2: Anand
3: Aronian
4: Bacrot
5: Leko
6: Gelfand
7: Adams
8: Ivanchuk
9: Tiviakov
10: Karjakin
11: Kamsky
12: Kramnik
13: van Wely
14: Sokolov

Jan-01-06  yoozum: I think I'm looking forward to Ivanchuk-Topalov even more than I'm looking forward to Topalov-Kramnik and Topalov-Anand.
Jan-01-06  EmperorAtahualpa: I will particularly be looking forward to Topalov - Aronian!
Jan-01-06  yoozum: I think that Topalov and Aronian had the best year in top-level chess (in terms of tournament successes and rating gains). I'm confident that Topalov could beat him, though.
Jan-01-06  notyetagm: <06Udit Narayan: Toppy is probably out of steam. In an effort to show that he is convincingly better than Kramnik, he will be his own worst enemy.>

Topalov +6 (undefeated) at Category 20 San Luis
Kramnik +0 (two losses) at Category 17 Russian Super-Final

Topalov just showed us that he is "convincingly better" than Kramnik.

Jan-01-06  LancelotduLac: The Leko-Topalov game promises to be exciting too, as Leko will want very badly to redeem himself after San Luis.
Jan-01-06  notyetagm: Predicted top 4:

1. Topalov
2. Ivanchuk
3. Anand
4. Aronian

Jan-01-06  LancelotduLac: <notyetagm> Hey! You copied my predictions! (see page 2 ;)
Jan-01-06  notyetagm: Wow, <LancelotduLac>, I didn't realize how smart you were until now. :-)
Jan-01-06  zapzowie: I predicted Aronian's victory in the World Cup and I'm predicting the same at Corus.
Jan-01-06  zapzowie: He's gonna moider the field, nuckleheads!
Jan-01-06  aw1988: I daresay Kramnik will finish above Ivanchuk...
Jan-01-06  like a GM: I really can't wait for Corus!! Why can't there be more? Only Corus, Linares and Dortmund. I want Athens too so i can see them in person. lol
Jan-01-06  CowardlyKnight: I think Anand will really want to prove something in this tournament.
Jan-01-06  twinlark: Reckon there are a few GMs that want to prove something in this tournament. Wish Polgar were there as she needs to rebuild her form after the San Luis disaster.
Jan-01-06  CloudDragon: Kramnik will play wll here as usual and finish high- the field is set for him they arent solid enough and Kramnik will habe a nice yesr this year.
Jan-01-06  yoozum: Keeping Dortmund '05 in mind, anything is possible here.
Jan-01-06  Dionyseus: 1. Topalov--Topalov will show he is the strongest active player.

2. Bacrot-- He will show the world he has talent.

3.Anand-- Solid Anand with a solid third place finish.

4. Aronian-- Impressive showing at the World Cup, amd he will be impressive at Corus. Him and Anand will be neck and neck.

5. Leko-- Cound Drawko is back to challenge Kramnik for the title of Draw King, and I believe Drawko will win it this time.

6. Gelfand-- Nice result at the World Cup.

7. Ivanchuk-- He has played way too many games lately.

8. Karjakin-- 8th would be an impressive result for the lad.

9. Kramnik-- No longer capable of drawing games at will, Drawnik will battle it out with Adams for 9th place.

10. Adams-- Adam's strength has detiorated, and I don't think he has enough to beat Kramnik.

11. Kamsky-- Too strong of a tournament for Kamsky, his strength is no where near what it was before his retirement.

12.Van Wely-- Van Wely has what it takes to finish 12th.

13. Sokolov-- 13th

14. Tiviakov-- Tiviakov who?

Jan-01-06  Udit Narayan: I hope Leko regains the form he had in Corus 2005. It would be great to see him win again!
Jan-01-06  PinkPanther: I predict Adams will do well (probably +1 or +2). He needed rest, and historically he's done well at Corus.
Jan-01-06  SnoopDogg: I think Aronian will do worse than everyone expects him to do. This is almost like Morozevich last year when he shot up to 2758 and then was shot back down.

I'm not predicting a winner, but from the looks of it, I think we could very well see a +7 result judging by the looks of the field. And really I see only three players capable of reaching +7: Topalov, Anand and Ivanchuk.

Jan-01-06  weisyschwarz: <Emperor Atahualpa>, thanks for offering to take pictures of the Corus tournament. You do us all a big favor.

Happy New Year everyone!
