Without seeing the studies, i really don't know which way they go. That is, those that play chess a lot may be less susceptible to dementia due to some other factor (this factor also leads to them playing chess a lot). But forcing someone to play chess may not have any affect on whether or not they are affected by dementia. As all statistics classes teach, relation does not imply causation. However, the studies could have been set up to show causation, so I don't know which way it is. |

| Nov-15-06 | | vesivialvy93: ...is this possible that from now Karpov is as good as Kasparov are in blitz ? in New York Karpov won his short match vs Kasparov... maybe Kasparov is only a 2700 player today ? if someone would have told me 20 years ago that Karpov will play like that at 56-57 years of age and in blitz...lol this guy is clearly stronger than anybody at this age except for Kortchnoi of course ! how Karpov can be stronger in blitz in his 50's than he was at 30 ??? |

| Nov-15-06 | | TIMER: Indeed Karpov should have been invited to the World Blitz Championship- he is still a top player in blitz (Polgar was in that championship too, for instance). Remember Tal won the World Blitz Championship when he was very ill in 1988 near the end of his life!( although he was only in his 50s) |

Here Korchnoi and maybe also Polgar missed winning moves against Karpov in their games with black, but in any case he of course did very well in this tournament... |

Interesting how on that site the other day, Kasparov was by far the highest in blitz (over 2870) since 2000 while Anand was second with around 2790 (nearer to Karpov 10th with 2720).
