May-01-06 | | Phi: I am wrong! Game 4 is under its way. |
May-01-06 | | jamesmaskell: Fourth game was a draw in an ECO B33 (Sicilian) 40-mover. They fought for it and Black had some nice queen mobility but it was a draw for sure. The match ended a 2:2 draw. Carlsen should be happy with that given Van Wely's history of winning Dutch Championships. |
May-01-06 | | fxenderby: thanx <jamesmaskell> but I guess we meant blitz |
May-01-06 | | EmperorAtahualpa: Congrats to Carlsen! |
May-01-06 | | TheBB: 3.5-0.5 to Carlsen in tiebreaks. That's crushing... |
May-01-06 | | fxenderby: over! again! |
May-01-06 | | Phi: Convincing play by Carlsen. Congratulations! |
May-01-06 | | percyblakeney: van Wely maybe lost the last blitz game on time, it looks far from resignable (even if it's not too important...). |
May-01-06 | | John Abraham: So Carlsen has won it? Congrats to the young Norwegian --- he has a bright future in chess! |
May-01-06 | | Xaurus: <John Abraham:>Yes he won, 5 1/2 against 2 1/2. |
May-01-06 | | EmperorAtahualpa: <Xaurus> I don't feel it's accurate to describe it as a 5.5-2.5 win for Carlsen. The regular are the ones that truly count, and in those 4 games they drew 2-2! |
May-01-06 | | Atking: <EmperorAtahualpa: <Xaurus> I don't feel it's accurate to describe it as a 5.5-2.5 win for Carlsen.> True ! But even in the regular especialy the game 3, it was Carlsen who got the better chance. He was confident to win the match in tiebreaks and didn't push in the game 4 (Almost balanced until the end). The young norvegian is great indeed. I completly agreed with Gypsy. <Carlsen's chess is ... a joy. > |
May-01-06 | | Xaurus: <The regular are the ones that truly count>For the ratings, sure, but to decide who won the match you have to count every point. |
May-01-06
 | | tamar: I agree with Emperor. Why do they need a tie-break? It is meaningless. They drew the match. |
May-01-06
 | | WannaBe: They had the tie-breaker so the chess bookie can make more 'juice'! |
May-01-06 | | John Abraham: Very exciting match...tough, hard-fought games and a speedy blitz finish...in my opinion, this match could not have been any better!! |
May-01-06 | | babakova: Many fighting games made for a great match, I agree. |
May-02-06
 | | lostemperor: When it came to blitz tie-breaker games I got a little of a bad feeling for van Wely. After all Magnus was the new blitz kid, who even beat Anand. Looking back, let's face it. It was Magnus "F1" Carlsen against Loek "Van" Wely :(. |
May-02-06 | | twinlark: It shows the advantage that blitz tiebreakers can confer. In classical, there's little between the two, but in blitz Carlsen mopped the floor with van Wely. This probably affected Carlsen's strategy for the classical matches. I agree with <tamar>, they drew the classical match, and Carlsen won the blitz match decisively. The same will result in the WC if it goes to tiebreak. |
May-02-06 | | olydream3: what is the time control for the blitz games? |
May-02-06 | | erasmus: <olydream3> the time control for the blitz games were 5 minutes for the whole game with 2 seconds added per move. |
May-02-06 | | Confuse: thats ridiculous, deciding a match based on those time controls... i feel bad for van wely : / |
May-02-06
 | | cu8sfan: <thats ridiculous, deciding a match based on those time controls... i feel bad for van wely> Just wait until the WORLD CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP gets decided by a ridiculous blitz (or armageddon) game... )-: |
May-02-06 | | zabbura2002: The wonder boy had beaten Anand in Blitz (who we know is a great Blitz player).. Van Wely must be having a nightmare |
May-02-06 | | Knight13: NOOOOOO! Van Wely lost!!! :( |
