Chessgames.com Chess Event Description
Meltwater Tour Final (2021)

The Meltwater Champions Chess Tour Final was the 10th and last event of the $1.5 million Meltwater Champions Chess Tour 2020-2021. A 10-player round-robin tournament over 10 days, the games were played from 25 September to 4 October on the chess24 Playzone. Rest day: 30 September (after Round 5). In each round, each 'game' consisted of 4 rapid games, with 3 points for a win and 0 points for a loss. In case of 2-2, a 2-game Blitz tie-break was played, eventually followed by an Armageddon game, with 2 points to the winner and 1 point to the loser. In addition to the 27 points thus being available, bonus points were awarded to the players according to the Tour standings (after 9 events, reflecting their success so far in the Tour): Carlsen received 16½ points before start, So 12½ points, Aronian 8, Radjabov 6, Giri 5½, Nakamura 4, Artemiev 3½, Vachier-Lagrave 2½, Mamedyarov ½, and Duda 0 bonus points. The player with the highest sum of points at the end of the event (including bonus points) to be declared the winner of the Tour.

Teimour Radjabov won the Tour Final, and Magnus Carlsen won the Tour:

Stonehenge: So and Naka should be kicked out of the tournament:

So vs Nakamura, 2021

Nakamura vs So, 2021

So vs Nakamura, 2021

And that in a rapid tournament, supposedly to entertain the spectators.

Check It Out: Nakamura tried the same opening again against Magnus, and again went down in the ending. Time for a new strategy. I think his problem is he considers himself a live streamer first and a chess player second. Still formidable, but motivation is downhill from that premise.
Sep-29-21  tuttifrutty: The game of chess requires strategy. Did Wesley broke any rules? If not, hush...nobody pays his bills but himself. He has not any obligations to please trolls.:)

MissScarlett: Rest day for Leko and Magnoose.
Oct-01-21  fabelhaft: Now that first blitz game between Giri and Carlsen…
Oct-01-21  AdolfoAugusto: What a queen sac by Maggie, yeah, it was just a blitz but,

The Champ loves to tease Anish. He has a lot of heart.

Yeah Giri can talk the talk, and maybe hold (boring) positions with the elite... make lots of draws.

But then the GOAT decides to change the pace, bring a trick from the sleeve, a sleigh of hand stir the water...

And Giri can't adapt.

Oct-02-21  beenthere240: This should NOT be a POD. On any day!

HeMateMe: Why is it named 'Melt Water', pray tell?
Oct-02-21  Messiah: C'mon Donald, ENTER THE HALLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oct-02-21  fabelhaft: The format makes the last rounds less interesting than they could have been given that Carlsen already has won it all with a big margin, but there’s lots of money to play for and it’s very close for second place and 60 000 dollar. Looks like So or Radjabov at the moment, third place will have to settle with 40 000.
