Apr-12-13  Strongest Force: Looks like Fab has already "f-ed" up his game against big Pete. I liked the bloodthirsty h5 instead of Bxg7.
Apr-12-13  BACCI ROBERTO: is possible to see the classification day by day?
Apr-12-13  Arcturar: Grischuk and Svidler are both really rocking it! Especially Svidler! Big Pete just ate Caruana for breakfast, and has now entered the Top 10. If he keeps his weight off and continues the trend, I wouldn't be surprised if he broke Top 5. I'm dissapointed in Karjakin though...I thought he might be the next guy to clear 2800, but he always stunts his rise with mediocre stuff like this.
Apr-12-13  jancotianno: Why is Leko always drawing???
Apr-12-13  nok: Because he's Leko.

Is Tomsk-400 a team? If so, who would have been on it?

Apr-12-13  BUNA: Tomsk-400 are - still - the reigning Russian champions. Ruslan Ponomariov, Alexander Areshchenko and Ernesto Inarkiev who played for them last year are missing this time.
Apr-12-13  Jimmy W: The team representing the Chess Federation of St. Petersburg has taken the lead in the standings after 6 rounds. The team is led by Svidler who won on the first board against Caruana. Check out that game. One round to go.
Apr-12-13  waustad: Sorry <messa> I probably added to the confusion by giving an even more extreme example than I could find in the open/men's bundesliga.
Apr-12-13  waustad: Loo seems to be a neighborhood a bit north of Georgia. It is down the coast from where Kramnik was born.

Check It Out: Thank you <BUNA>.
Apr-12-13  cro777: <Why are these championships being held in the Loo?>

The village of Loo is a microdistrict of the city of Sochi (18 kilometers (11 miles) from the city center) located in Krasnodar Region in Russia's south. It is situated between the Black Sea and the Caucasus Mountains just north of Russia's border with Georgia .

Venue of the tournament, the recreation center "Akvaloo", has achieved wide popularity with its developed infrastructure (including one of the biggest water parks in Russia's south).

Apr-12-13  cro777: <A very strong field, despite the fact that Tomsk-400 could not attend.>

Last year, the Tomsk-400 team (Karjakin, Ponomariov, Inarkiev, Motylev, Bologan, Khismatullin, Areshchenko, Kurnosov) won the Russian Team Championship for a fifth time, with Sergey Karjakin posting the tournament’s best performance (2896).

Boris Shaidullin, the team captain, explained the reasons for non-participation of the club in the 2013 Championship: "The reason is simple - there is no money. Previously, we were supported by different sponsors, but, as a rule, due to the support of the governor. Now, we have a new governor, who pays more attention to football ... What to do - soccer is more attractive!"

The Russian team Tomsk-400 is based in the Siberian city of Tomsk.

Apr-13-13  Strongest Force: It's Carjack vs Carjack in the 7th round! I am not sure but It looked like they might be headed for an abrupt draw. That would be a shame because there is potential for much more; i.e., somebody could get hijacked!
Apr-13-13  Arcturar: Lol StrongestForce, it looks like you were right. Grischuk beat Nepo with black, however, so he is now world #5! Congratulations Sascha! When Candidates players like Grischuk or Gelfand play "regular" super-GMs in tournaments like this, a divide is really frequently seen regardless of rating...You don't beat Aronian and Kramnik in matches and win Linares without some talent. ;)
Apr-13-13  Eyal: According to an interview Kramnik gave to chess-news, the Russian Chess Federation is negotiating with the organizers of the Stavanger Tournament in Norway, so that he could drop from there and participate in the Tal Memorial instead - maybe as the new #5 Grischuk could replace him... (With the recent drop in the rankings of Nakamura & Radjabov, they're not going to have all the top-8 - as they stated in their press release at the time - playing there anyway.)
Apr-13-13  Arcturar: It would very interesting if Grischuk could play. A real Russian (Karjakin is only semi-Russian) has to be present for proper representation. :P

perfidious: No-one gives a hairy rodent's fundament where Grischuk-or anyone else-comes from, save those obsessed with jingoistic rubbish.
Apr-13-13  BUNA: Svidler will replace Kramnik. Not a bad choice either.
Apr-13-13  Eyal: <Svidler will replace Kramnik.>

Yeah, that’s the news on chessvibes (http://www.chessvibes.com/reports/s...). Apparently Kramnik agreed to participate in the Tal Memorial before knowing the exact dates, and when it turned out to be in June he felt it would be too much to play in all three of the Alekhine Memorial (which starts on 20 April), Stavanger & Tal Memorial.

Btw, they also give the full list of participants in the upcoming Tal Memorial (12-21 June), which I haven’t seen before: Carlsen, Kramnik, Anand, Caruana, Karjakin, Nakamura, Morozevich, Gelfand, Mamedyarov & Andreikin.

Apr-13-13  IndigoViolet: Vlad is ducking Topalov. This was to have been their first classical game in 5 years.
Apr-13-13  joachimvhw: Dubov took down Bologan!
Apr-13-13  fisayo123: So many ridiculous super-tournaments coming up. Good luck to Vituigov and MVL. <joachimvhw> Dubov's Richter-Rauzer is really something else. I never play that line, but I might start to consider it myself. And Viorel has really taken a nose-dive since getting trounced at Biel.
Apr-13-13  Eyal: <So many ridiculous super-tournaments coming up.>

Well, with the disappearance of Linares & Amber the first half of the year (between Tata in January and June/July) has become rather wide open. Hopefully at least a couple of the new top tournaments we're seeing now – Baden-Baden, Zurich, the Alekhine Memorial, Stavanger – will become steady.

Apr-13-13  IndigoViolet: Steady? Fixtures, permanent, established.
