Troller: Aronian has sacrificed a piece against Laznicka and has a promising position. The Czech has been playing very well here, but Aronian is so far having a fantastic tournament.
Oct-21-10  SugarDom: If Aronian wins, he will reclaim No.1 liverating list...
Oct-21-10  Skakalec: laznicka played b3 instead of ours Bf4 (vs. Pogonina). Shame he didn't try "our" approach .

looks like Mamedyarov has gone berserk...

Oct-21-10  whiteshark: <nuwanda: looks like Mamedyarov has gone berserk..> wow, he a queen down
Oct-21-10  nuwanda:

...no longer...

Oct-21-10  percyblakeney: Shirov has tired quite a bit since winning Shanghai far ahead of Kramnik and Aronian, but then he has had a very hectic schedule after that. Quick loss with white today against Andreikin after yesterday's draw against 2511 opposition.
Oct-21-10  Appaz: Only a draw for Karjakin with white. I suspect he is in bad form... :)
Oct-21-10  percyblakeney: Grischuk alone has won all his four games, today with black against Alekseev. The latter has dropped a few places on the world ranking lately. Three years ago he was #14 in the world, and at the moment he is approximately ranked #14 in Russia.
Oct-21-10  bharatiy: <percy> look how times have changed few years back #14 in russia (USSR) would have meant #15 or #16 in world not anymore!
Oct-21-10  AuN1: <Appaz: Only a draw for Karjakin with white. I suspect he is in bad form... :)>

he actually had a winning advantage, and blundered it.

Oct-22-10  kurtrichards: <Only a draw for Karjakin with white...> With draws too from Gelfand,Caruana and Riazantsev. Thanks to the two Boris' - Boris Grachev and Boris Savchenko. They provided Team ShSM-64 Moscow the much needed points to climb up a bit higher in the standings. Keep on winning... :)

1111

Oct-22-10  percyblakeney: Looks like it will be Aronian-Adams in the last round that will decide #1 on the November list. If Aronian wins the prestigious first place is his, otherwise Anand will top the list for the 6th time. Carlsen had five in a row as #1 before November.
Oct-22-10  adair10: <percyblakeney> <If Aronian wins the prestigious first place is his, otherwise Anand will top the list for the 6th time.>

That I guess depends on whether this tournament and for that matter Bilbao counted in the November list

Oct-23-10  percyblakeney: Karjakin-Radjabov today, White vs Black.
Oct-23-10  supy: fun live rapid, Karpov, Hammer, Ivanchuk http://www.chessdom.com/news-2010/c...
Oct-23-10  percyblakeney: Aronian - Adams was a draw so no #1 for Aronian on the November list but at least he secures his first official 2800 rating.
Oct-23-10  percyblakeney: Mamedyarov-Gelfand 1-0.
Oct-23-10  muradov: Congrats to Shark, his fighting spirit is amazing!

Karjakin-Radhabov drawn in 14 moves. Unfortunately, Radjabov has been a big disappointment in the last few years, taking so many early, unfought draws. Especially here, where his team needs to win with a big score in order to have a chance for gold.

Oct-23-10  whiteshark: Jobava lost to Dambacher
Oct-24-10  whiteshark: <Economist-SGSEU-1 achieved the desired result in the last round of the 26th European Club Cup and won the second consecutive title in this competition (after Struga 2009). The Saratov team tied Yugra 3-3 in a match that was closely contested despite the deceiving looks of all six draws.

Top-seeded SOCAR Azerbaijan and ShSM-64 Moscow also played 3-3, with Mamedyarov beating Gelfand on the first board and Riazantsev equalizing by defeating Shirov. German champion Baden-Baden OSG and A DAN DZO & PGMB Chernigiv caught up with the other teams on the shared second place by winning their final matches.

Economist-SGSEU-1 is convincingly first with 13 match points, full two points ahead of the rest of the field. But further bellow was a cluster of four teams who shared the second place by collecting 11 points each. Yugra and A DAN DZO & PGMB Chernigiv had the best sum of individual scores and entered into medal distribution. Ultimately, Yugra counted on better third tiebreak to grab the silver, while the 10th-seeded Chernigiv will be satisfied with bronze.>

<Economist wins European Club Cup in Plovdiv 24.10.2010 – The Russian team won the 2010 title with 13 match points, ahead of four teams with eleven apiece. But the most outstanding performance came from Armenian GM Levon Aronian, playing for Mika Yerevan, who scored 4.5/6 with a 2884 performance that brings him to 2801 (and at least number three in the world) on the next FIDE rating list. Aronian is only the sixth player to cross the 2800 mark.>

<The best performance (of any player with six or more games) was scored by Levon Aronian, playing for Mika Yerevan, who chalked up three wins and three draws for a 2884 rating performance.

Aronian's result of 4.5/6 produced a 2884 performance and represented an important milestone: the Armenian GM and world's fourth highest ranked player unofficially broke the 2800 rating barrier, finishing the tournament at 2801 on the live rating lists. If this rating remains intact for the official November FIDE ratings (it will) Lev will be number three and, more importantly, become the sixth player to cross the 2800 rating mark, joining Garry Kasparov, Vladimir Kramnik, Viswanathan Anand, Veselin Topalov, and Magnus Carlsen. Congratulations to this very likable young player.>

Oct-25-10  jeremy24: Alexei Dreev is tearing it up at
+5, -0 , =2. He may be the best theorist in the queen's pawn opening aside from Kramnik.
