European Team Championship (2013)

The 19th European Team Championship was held in Warsaw, Poland, 8-17 November 2013, as a 9-round Swiss System tournament. Rest day: 13 November. Time control: 90 minutes for the first 40 moves, 30 more minutes for the rest of the game, with 30 seconds added per move from move 1. Prize fund: 27,000 euros, with 13,000 euros to the winning team, and in addition trophies, medals and individual prizes. Tournament director: Agnieszka Fornal. Chief arbiter: Aleksander Sokolski. Number of games played: 684.

Azerbaijan (Mamedyarov, Radjabov, Safarli, Mamedov, Guseinov) won with 14/18 match points (+5 =4 -0), ahead of France (2nd), Russia (3rd) and Armenia (4th) with 13/18.

Meanwhile it looks like France will at least not lose to Armenia. With MVL on board 2 they might even win it.

Meanwhile, Grischuk held the draw against Giri, Smeets drew Andreikin. And Morozevich seems to losing against van Kampen.
And the Russian hopes rest on Svidler to avoid another loss.

On board 4 Javakhishvili seems to have dropped (a lot of) her advantage against Girya. Girya still has work to do to hold the draw, but a few moves ago it looked like she was just lost.

Apparently he has not studied Tiviakov'S games carefully enough. Well a 2-2 is still a good result against the Russian Men's team. But ofc they could have beaten them today. I am still assuming van Kampen will win vs. Morozevich.

Nov-16-13  waustad: Best of luck Natalia. I couldn't root for you in this one: N Pogonina vs V Exler, 2013 but I've lived in Austria and I've never been to Russia. She may be the reigning champion, but this game may have been deer in the headlights. She's 0-4 vs the only Austrian close to your rating to the best of my knowledge.
Nov-17-13  waustad: That should be "Austrian woman" not Austrian, since Marcus Ragger and Davi(d/t) Shengelia are both much higher rated. I hesitate to do a copy/paste correction since then links are usually broken. In any case congratulations to this year's champion Peter Schreiner on an excellent result so far. Perhaps with a win tomorrow he'll get GM norm, I don't know. The only Austrian posted GM norm now is Robert Kreisl, but there could be more where nobody paid the fee yet. Please post more if I am in error.

Nov-17-13  kingfu: How do the Ukrainians do it? They win BOTH women's and men's team events. Alexander Ipatov missed winning the Junior Championship by a half point and is definitely a rising star.

I want to be a Ukrainian when I grow up.
