Mar-30-06  mikejaqua: I just have to pipe in about Pons here. He's got at least a shared third place wrapped up. Very impressive performance for the young man from Spain.

sisyphus: It's a big jump for Vallejo, who finished 10th last year and last in 2004.
Mar-30-06  amateur05: thanks percyblakeney
Mar-30-06  DCP23: Yep, Paco Vallejo has clearly improved a lot, no doubt about it.
Mar-30-06  percyblakeney: Anand is pawn up against Topalov and should at least not risk losing.
Mar-30-06  percyblakeney: Wow, it's over already, rather fast draw between Anand and Topalov.
Mar-30-06  percyblakeney: Moro is pawn down but has a better position than van Wely.
Mar-30-06  doremi: It is a bit surprising that Anand does not play on risk free. Go, Moro, go! This is your chance to win Monaco!
Mar-30-06  DCP23: Don't have an engine available at the moment; wasn't it possible for Moro to play 16. bxc4 Nxd1 17. cxb5 and the N falls too, R+B+N is more than enough for the Q, or am I missing smth.?
Mar-30-06  percyblakeney: <DCP23> It looks as if your line works, for example 16. bxc4 Nxd1 17. cxb5 Nxf2 18. Bc6+ Ke7 19. Kxf2 axb5 20. Nd4 and white is at least better:

Mar-30-06  percyblakeney: Shredder gives the mentioned line as close to 1.5 up for white.
Mar-30-06  DCP23: Thanks, <percyblakeney> Of course Moro came up with a much more facsinating line ;)
Mar-30-06  percyblakeney: I think this game too may be drawn soon...
Mar-30-06  doremi: I have a funny feeling that Moro is overextending his position. I had that feeling a couple of moves earlier, changed my mind, but the feeling is now there again...
Mar-30-06  percyblakeney: Yes, if someone is winning I wouldn't bet on Moro at the moment.
Mar-30-06  DCP23: No matter who wins this game, thumbs up for Moro for playing it up and keeping the fight going to the end!! Very unlike Anand who chose to make a short draw with Topalov.
Mar-30-06  DCP23: Ahem... As soon as I said that, he goes for a perpetual?! :)))
Mar-30-06  DCP23: Okay, joint winners then.
Still Moro is the real winner, say what you will.
Mar-30-06  gmgomes: Congratulations for Moro and Anand for sharing 1st in Amber 2006. Moro - the blindfold king
Anand - The Speed King.
Mar-30-06  Ragh: Does anyone know the past winners list of the previous Amber tournaments. I would like to know who has most number of titles.

Open Defence: <Ragh> i dont have the stats but i think Anand probably tops the list of previous wins
Mar-30-06  doremi: What is the next event for us chess junkies to congregate at cg again?
Mar-30-06  acirce: <Open Defence> he is tied with Kramnik now, 5 first places each in the combined event (clear or shared).

Open Defence: wow, how many people would have picked "Drawnik" to do well at an event like Amber
