Chessgames.com Chess Event Description
World Blitz Championship (Women) (2017)

The 2017 Women's World Blitz Championship was a 21-round Swiss open held 29-30 December in the Apex Convention Center in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, right after the World Rapid Championship (Women) (2017). Time control: 3 minutes per player per game, with 2 seconds added per move from move 1. If there was a tie for 1st place, the top 2 players according to the first eligible tiebreak criterion would play a playoff match of two 3+2 games, and if still tied, an Armageddon game. Prize fund: $250,000, with $80,000 to the winner. Tournament director: Geoffrey Borg. Chief arbiter: Panagiotis Nikolopoulos.

Georgian Nana Dzagnidze won with 16.5/21.

Dec-29-17  PhilFeeley: After day 1, Pia Cramling in the lead! Wouldn't it be neat if she won, to go with the other Old Guy winning the rapid.
Dec-30-17  siamesedream: Congratulations to Blitz Women World Champion 2017 <Nana Dzagnidze>!
Dec-30-17  Sokrates: Congratulations to the true world champions, Hou Yifan and the Muzychuk sisters who bravely stayed out of this fake championship. None of the women here are worthy of any title.
Jan-08-18  dumbgai: <Sokrates> is right.
Jan-09-18  JimNorCal: one eighty
