Jun-07-12  Rolfo: The Russian organizers deserve due credit for trying out such a new approach, as well for the production and relay to all chess public. Exciting to watch, like being there oneself.
Jun-07-12  LoveThatJoker: Great job by CG making a page for this excellent blitz tournament!

LTJ

Jun-07-12  Blunderdome: White scored +23 -9 =13 (66%) here.
Jun-07-12  solskytz: I suppose that it's because in blitz, the effect of the white pieces shining in your eyes from a certain distance when you play black, costs crucial time in getting over the confusion.
Jun-07-12  Strongest Force: My guess is that total-masters who keep a fresh approach did better than those relying on routine.
Jun-07-12  Floydovich: Is this the World Blitz Championship 2012 ?
Jun-07-12  magnuschess: No , it is tal memorial blitz , you can find about in tal memorial page.
Jun-07-12  magnuschess: in blitz game , having white pieces like playing football in your home state.
Jun-07-12  vsaluki: I'm a big Morozevich fan and a Carlsen fan, so this should be something to cheer about. But, unfortunately, I also believe that blitz means nothing.
Jun-07-12  MORPHYEUS: Not to the millions who play online.
Jun-07-12  Stormbringer: Huh, you'd think people would love to see Kramnik taking a pounding.

What makes blitz interesting is that you get to see the 'first ideas', their instinctual moves. Sometimes these are going to be bad ideas, and that's okay, because then it is up to the opponent to recognise the move as bad, and exploit... all the while they are also on the clock.

It is finger-chess not head-chess, but still chess and all chess is good, but this is especially good chess, because it is chess by brilliant people who put a lot of hard work in to get this far. Perhaps it is not their 'best' chess, but it is still of such an advanced and lofty height (at least from where I am) that there is much to learn.

Honza Cervenka: <blitz means nothing> Here the blitz is meaning 15,000 euros...:-)

Of course, from the point of quality of chess, and from the point of predicting of the outcome of the tournament it means (almost) nothing.

Jun-08-12  balzarius: Congrats to Moro! Also a very strong performance by Carlsen who finish on +4 and shared first after two losses!
Jun-08-12  pericles of athens: have you guys looked at the tomashevsky vs kramnik game?

Is that an incomplete record for the game?

Jun-08-12  drnooo: since the top two were tied: how come they didn't have a play off at one game of classical chess, and if that was tied then one game of random chess with each side setting up the pieces of the opponent blindfold and if that was tied then they each take thirty paces with tennis balls and rackets and see which can knock over all the others pieces on a giant chessboard more or less how the worlds championship was decided
Jun-08-12  balzarius: drnoo,it's easy:because Moro has the better Sonneborn-Berger tiebreak score by defeating Carlsen in their individual encounter.
Jun-10-12  QueentakesKing: <SOS> Who is in-charge of the recording and transmission of games in this tourney? There are lots of incomplete games here.<SOS>

chessgames.com: The electronic sensors that are used to record these games get confused when pieces fly around the board too quickly. It's not that the GMs are doing anything wrong or against the rules of blitz chess, it's just that the sensor board/software combination is not clever enough to discern the exact chess moves that were played when a "flurry of exchanges" takes place. And so the software just truncates the game at the point where it first got confused.

We normally delete truncated games, especially when they are just opening stubs, but we wanted to keep this score table intact.

Jun-11-12  BadKnight: It might be possible to reproduce the game scores if the video of the games are available.
Jun-11-12  Eyal: <It might be possible to reproduce the game scores if the video of the games are available.>

Yeah, for example if one does a youtube search by "Tal memorial chess blitz" there are quite a few videos of games (or parts of games...) by Eugene Potemkin, like this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NlGD.... If anyone has the time and patience for that, I suppose most of the missing scores could be reconstructed.

Honza Cervenka: Btw, Eugene Potemkin can be seen in live video stream during Aronian vs Kramnik game, which he was filming form the other side of the board.

But I am a bit disappointed that organisers did not release official videos of all games yet. They were done as it is apparent from Eugene Potemkin's videos, which show presence of cameras on every stage.

Jun-24-12  QueentakesKing: Thank you <chessgames.com> for the clarification.
