3rd Louis D Statham Masters Tournament
Lone Pine, California
March 18-24, 1973

The tournament was open to all Masters and above, and Experts under age 21 (Juniors). The field expanded to 48 players, with international stars Laszlo Szabo and Anthony Miles joining the usual roster of top US masters and hopefuls.   Retireborn: I'm somewhat surprised to see that Dennis Waterman played in this tournament. He could be so good for you, perhaps.

perfidious: Dennis was certainly good company; thirty years on, we met for the first time at a table in a pot limit hold'em tournament in Tunica, Mississippi, with Poker HOFer TJ Cloutier sitting between us.

After all three of us busted out, Dennis and I talked a while, inter alia, about his recent visit to the US championship. Pleasant, easygoing guy. Have not seen him in years.

Retireborn: <perfidious> Well now, I'm not sure if you know that a British actor of that name sang the theme tune for "Minder". You've left me in a state of uncertainty (laughs)

perfidious: <Retireborn>, I did not know that and am not at all familiar with the actor.

See the kibitzing on Browne vs D Waterman, 1974 for a hilarious tale involving Dennis, which runs very much counter to the soubriquet 'Swami' by which Dennis is known on the poker circuit.

Retireborn: Oh yes, the woo hoo guy, I remember you mentioning him before (laughs)

The other Waterman was a fairly familiar face on British tv in the 70s and 80s.
