Corsica Masters (2005) |
The 9th Corsica Masters was a knockout tournament played in Bastia, Corsica, France, 3-5 November 2005. The field consisted of 12 players from the Corsica Masters International Rapid (2005) (3 November at 10:30 am), which were knockout matches between the top 24 players of the 7-round Bastia Open (2005) (30 October - 2 November, 90 minutes + 30 seconds added per move), and four seeded players (Bacrot, Polgar, Adams and Anand). The four rounds had two games each, plus tiebreak games if necessary. Time control: Rapid (15 minutes + 3 seconds and/or 20 minutes + 5 seconds). If 1-1, then two 5 + 3 Blitz games, and if still equal, more Blitz games. The prize fund was 100,000 euros, with 20,000 euros to the winner. Chief organizer: Léo Battesti and the Corsica Chess Club. Vadim Markovich Milov surprisingly beat Anand 3-1 in the final.

Bologan ½½ 01 ½½ 0 3 Missing games: Polgar vs Tregubov 1-0 (Round 1.4), Almasi vs Milov 1-0 (Round 3.2), Adams vs Anand 1/2 (Round 3.2). For Round 1, there is a mismatch between number of games and official result in Adams vs Riazantsev (7 games in official pgn, 2½-1½ = 4 games) and Fressinet vs Bologan (6 games, 4-3 = 7 games). In the official pgn, all games had "2005.11.03" and "Round 1", causing considerable confusion. Go figure! The Bastia Open (2005) was won by Sasikiran. Most of the players also participated in the 9-round Swiss Rapid tournament Venaco Open (2005) (28-29 October) (Anand won, after which he also won the KO) and in the 9-round Swiss tournament Ajaccio Open (2005) (26-27 October) (Gurevich won, after which Sasikiran won the KO). All tournaments part of the "Open International de Corse" or "Corsican Circuit" 2005. Official site: https://web.archive.org/web/2005110...
