British Championship (2019)

The 106th British Chess Championships was held at the Riviera International Centre in Torquay, England from 27th July - 4th August. The reigning British Champion, GM Mickey Adams, tried to defend his crown against fierce opposition including GM David Howell, GM Nick Pert and GM Stephen Gordon. In case of a tie for first a rapid and blitz playoff would take place. The time control was 90 minutes for 40 moves then 30 minutes to the end, with a 30-second increment from move 1. Chief arbiter: Peter Purland.

Michael Adams won his 7th title with 7.5/9.

Jul-31-19  PhilFeeley: Lots of interesting chess here, but also lots of short draws. Are tournaments finding the no-draw-before-30 rule unpopular with players?

  Tabanus: Congrats Mickey.

Palliser had w/o wins in rounds 3 & 4 (so only 7 games). Arkell did not play his rd. 4 game (vs Palliser), and Pert did not play his last round game.

Dec-15-19  paavoh: What economy by Adams, average moves per games less than 28.
