Russian Championship Higher League (2016)

The 69th Russian Championship Higher League tournament was a 60-player 9-round Swiss held in the MBU Speed Skating Center in Kolomna (SE of Moscow), Russia, 22 June - 1 July 2016. Rest day: June 26. The top 5 players would go to the Superfinal. Time control: 90 minutes for 40 moves, 30 more minutes to the end of the game, with 30 seconds added per move from move one. Players arriving later than 15 minutes for the game would be forfeited. No draw offers before move 41. Rounds started at 3 pm (local time). Prize fund: 5 million rubles. Organizers: Yara Sidorchuk, Moscow Chess Federation and Russian Chess Federation. Chief arbiter: Mikhail Krjukov.

Grigoriy Oparin won with 6.5/9. Fedoseev (2nd on Buchholz tiebreak), Kokarev (3rd), Riazantsev (4th) and Goganov (5th) also qualified for the Russian Championship Superfinal (2016).
