GCT Paris Rapid & Blitz (2021) |
The GCT Paris Rapid & Blitz was the second of five events of the $1,275,000 Grand Chess Tour 2021. It took place at the Mobilier National in Paris, France, from 18-22 June. Seven of the 10 tour regulars, So, Vachier-Lagrave, Firouzja, Aronian, Caruana, Radjabov and Rapport, were joined by event wild cards Nepomniachtchi, Svidler, Bacrot and Kramnik. The Rapid part was a 10-player round-robin and featured three rounds each day on the first three days, with a time control of 25 minutes for all moves, with a 10-second delay from move 1. The final two days were a Blitz double round-robin with 18 rounds of 5 minutes + 2-second delay. Rapid games counted double, with 2 points for a win and 1 for a draw. The games began each day at 2 pm local time. Svidler participated in the Rapid only, and Kramnik in the Blitz only. The tournament director was Tony Rich. Chief arbiter: Stephane Escafre.
