keypusher: Bardejov is a World Heritage site located in north-eastern Slovakia. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barde...

Lots of draws for a 1920s tournament. Maybe the players were focused on sightseeing.

Jan-27-24  stone free or die: As <chessical> asked, and <chessist> answered why, this tournament is full of 15-move stub games. A fuller explanation is as follows:

<<How it was with the parties from Bardejov 1926 requires a little explanation. Some of them have been preserved in various chess magazines and newspaper patrols. However, the basis of Brandreth's publication seems to be Hans Kmoch's article Die Eroeffnungen der Turniere Budapest, Bartfeld und Hannover 1926 in kritische Zusammenstellung, which was based on a continuation in the journal Kagans neueste Schachnachrichten in 1927. In it, the opening of all 231 games played in these three tournaments and published opening moves (usually 10 to 15). But even Hans Kmoch had his source - and that was the huge filing cabinet of the start of another Viennese master, Hans Mueller. Yes - in those ancient times, some tournament participants copied the games of their opponents, and if a tournament book was not published, many games were preserved in copies by these masters. For example, almost all games from the tournament in Brno 1928 were preserved in the archive of Serbian grandmaster Boris Kostic. So Mueller's card file is the real source of the collection of games from Bardejov 1926. However, any clarification is very welcome and appreciated by chess historians...>

Jan-27-24  stone free or die: I suppose the most complete source, at least in paper form, comes from a 1982 Brandreth Caissa Edition book:

<<Internationales Schachmeisterturnier Bad Bartfeld 1926> - Milcíades A. Lachaga>
