Amsterdam IBM (1974) |
"Three players finished first: Ivkov, Tukmakov and Jansa (in that Berger-Sonneborn order). Of them, Ivkov remained undefeated, while Tukmakov lost his undefeated streak in the last round to his compatriot Geller. Ivkov — in my opinion — with a little luck could have won the sole first place, playing so well and confidently. He stepped in for the ill Olafsson, and left as suddenly as he came: he rushed to Manila to second Marjanovic for the World Youth Championship. Tukmakov proved that his success in Madrid last year was no coincidence. Jansa entered by winning last year's B tournament (it is true that he received the grandmaster title in the process, so he could have been invited directly!), and with the help of Fortuna he achieved the greatest success of his life so far. His games fluctuated, but he usually prevailed. Apart from Ivkov, I was the only one who managed to remain unbeaten. With the exception of my Planinc game, I was usually better or at least equal, and with a little luck I could have achieved a better result. Even so, it was one of my strongest tournaments, if you look at the bottom of the table: Timman, Donner ..." (Ribli in Sakkélet, transl.)
