Oct-11-07  Erdkunde: He must be a good football player...<Lange weg> would seem to me to mean "long way" in German; hence "kick long way".
Mar-07-08  brankat: Yes, 'ole Kick is still kicking.

Happy Birthday!

Mar-07-08  hitman84: He looks like Robert Redford.
Mar-07-08  achieve: <hitman84: He looks like Robert Redford.> Very well spotted!

I only saw it AFTER you made that observation.

Mar-07-08  hitman84: <achieve>There is also a guy who looks like Bruce Campbell.
Mar-07-08  achieve: <hitman> Really? A chessplayer?

Which one? (I couldn't come up with one after some "thought")

Mar-07-08  hitman84: <achieve>Try the search function. I forgot his name. His name is very Dutch and scary :)
Mar-07-08  achieve: LOL Found him!

Manuel Bosboom is the perpetrator!

VERY oh so scary pic btw ;-)

Oct-05-08  sneaky pete: Lucebert: Langeweg

dit is een oude benauwde wereld
tot in mijn keel genageld
zit ik onwrikbaar in de machine
de machine die mij meemaakt

als katten in muizen
schrikken springend mijn ogen
maar de ruimte houdt mij in haar hol
ik ben als een boom in een berg

...

alleen een stippellijn stippellijn
stippellijn is kind

Apr-11-09  schroedingers cat: very interresting name that he has :)
Mar-07-10  Sourav: Happy Birthday Kick! Keep kicking (but please don't kick your opponents!!).
Mar-07-10  TheaN: <Erdkunde: He must be a good football player...<Lange weg> would seem to me to mean "long way" in German; hence "kick long way".>

In fact it means exactly the same in Dutch so in truth you can see the name like this... weird then though :).

I've never seen this guy before, when I'll have more time I'll check some of his games.

Nov-26-11  wordfunph: from NIC's Yearbook 100 Anniversary issue, IM Kick Langeweg won the distinction as the most prolific writer ever with 160 contributions.
Mar-07-12  wordfunph: scary to play against Kick :(

happy birthday IM Langeweg!

Mar-07-13  Abdel Irada: I can only imagine what this player's high school experience must have been like, particularly if someone took his name as a request.

However, he appears to have survived and come out with flying colors, so congratulations are in order. I wish him a happy birthday and many happy returns.

FSR: Can't accuse this guy of not losing enough miniatures: http://www.chessgames.com/perl/ches...
Mar-07-13  goodevans: <FSR> But at least he had the dubious distinction of losing his short games to some very great players. Some big names in that list.

eternaloptimist: Happy birthday to IM Langeweg!
Aug-17-16  WorstPlayerEver: Kick is is old popular Dutch name. Usually the person is named Chris. Probably because of Kick Smit.

Christiaan Gerrit (Kick) Langeweg

Johannes Chrishostomos (Kick) Smit - Dutch football player

Feb-09-19  FryskHynder: Langeweg means 'longway' in Durch
Feb-09-19  FryskHynder: It's true, FSR. Also Dutch grandmaster Jan Hein Donner has an impressive record of Miniatures.
Feb-09-19  Granny O Doul: In my country, "Kick" is usually a nickname for Kathleen Agnes Kennedy Cavendish, Marchioness of Hartington.

FSR: <FryskHynder> True. He has 49 of 'em in CG.com's database - exactly the same number as Langeweg. http://www.chessgames.com/perl/ches...
Jan-28-23  generror: The great number of miniatures he lost can be explained that Kick was the regular local hero at the Wijk aan Zee tournaments from the 1960s til the 1980s.
Jan-28-23  generror: He did finish in the top half of Hoogovens (1966) though! Go Kick go!
