"The Swedes considered Pia Cramling a favorite in the eight-player, two-round women's world championship final held in Malmö in February. That's why they offered a prize fund of 75,000 Swedish kroner, an unusually high prize for women's tournaments. To their great surprise, however, it was not the home favorite, nor Irina Levitina or Nana Alexandria, who were considered favorites by the experts, who won, but the young Akhmilovskaya who earned the right to compete for the world championship title. In the exciting tournament that attracted great interest, where only 15 out of 56 games ended in a draw, the good nerves played a decisive role in the tense, indulgent matches. Only one participant, 29-year-old Akhmilovskaya, had such exceptionally good nerves. This was reflected in her results, because she pushed forward irresistibly in the final and deservedly won. 23-year-old Pia Cramling didn't play well, but as the newspapers wrote during the competition, "she still has a lot of time!""
