sisyphus: <Ragh: Now, that does not answer to what I asked.> Relax; it's an answer to the issue <DCP23, percyblakeney,> and <dimradil> raised.
Mar-30-06  Ragh: <sisyphus>..I was just kidding.

All - See the <Amber Rapid> page for details on this issue.

Mar-30-06  Mameluk: Congratulations for Moro madgic, even if I´d love to see him winning some non-blindfold tournament. This time he was very conservative, but Aronian made a show. Anand is a classic, someone should really try to calculate some rapid ratings- he may well be 2900 or so.
Mar-30-06  Ragh: Yes. Anand almost all the time wins every rapid tournament that he participates in.

He got the nickname of 'The Lightning Kid' when he was very young.

Mar-30-06  cade: Morozevich scored a rating of over 3000 in the Blindfold. Impressive.
Mar-30-06  Illogic: Amazing how much Moro dominated this...
Mar-30-06  notyetagm: <cade: Morozevich scored a rating of over 3000 in the Blindfold. Impressive.>

Yes, that is what a 3000 rating means: you go +8 =3 -0 against the 2700s!

Mar-30-06  Appaz: I'm surprised Ivanchuk are doing so bad in blindfold, as he has a reputation for playing "blindfolded" even in ordinary games (looking everywhere but the board). He doesn't seem to have succeeded in the blindfold of Melody Amber with an overall score of 54.5%. He might have showed signs of improving in '04 (3rd/+3) and '05 (2nd/+1), but then came '06 (12th / -4).
Mar-30-06  yalie: I think Ivanchuk has played too much chess the past year and a half .. he needs to take a break and work on his chess to get it back to 2750+ level
Mar-30-06  drnooo: Well while everyone is going on about Mr Lightning..... Carlsens two recent victories over senor Anand may be a, what, fluke. But then , it just might be that Carlsen is the best speed player in the world right now. Incredible as that sounds. Does anyone have other recent results of his speed play, that is, were not some of his playoff games in other tourneys speed that he lost.
Mar-30-06  iron maiden: <But then , it just might be that Carlsen is the best speed player in the world right now.> I highly doubt that. I understand that any accomplishment of Carlsen's is always going to receive an extra amount of attention (where was all the hype when Vadim Milov beat Vishy 2-0 in blitz last year at Corisca?), but of all the rapid events that Magnus has played in his career, this one stands out as the only truly great result. Remember last year he lost to Anand at Leon and Kamsky at the World Cup. Let's be objective here: two blitz wins against Anand do not make somebody "the best speed player in the world."
Mar-30-06  Ragh: Yes <iron maiden>, I agree. Moreover, it is worthy to stress that Anand lost in Blitz chess and not in Rapid chess.

The kids these days play a lot of blitz on the internet - playchess.com, chessclub.com, ICC etc. as opposed to Anand. Anand himself acknowledged of this fact before the start of this tourney.

Hence, it is no surprising that a wonder boy like Carlsen beat Anand in blitz. It is to be remembered, however, that chess greats are not made instantly. Carlsen has a loooong way to go before he can even equalize what Anand has achieved until now.

Mar-31-06  mohankumar: <Morozevich scored a rating of over 3000 in the Blindfold. Impressive.>see!cade!one tournament win will not get you over 3000!U need to be consistent in your performance to become a great.Finishing the fide championship with the poor show and getting win in amber doesn't sounds great as for as myself is concerned!
Mar-31-06  TheBB: <as for as myself is concerned!>

Tsk tsk. Perhaps you mean:

<as far as I am concerned!>

Mar-31-06  EmperorAtahualpa: Ok so Morozevich and Anand shared first place. Morozevich won the blindfold games and Anand the rapid games.

The question is now: Who would win if the games were RAPID AND BLINDFOLD SIMULTANEOUSLY? :)

Open Defence: <rapid and blindfold simultaneously> Are Blindfolds under classical time controls ? silly question .. i should have probably looked that up .. however the week end laziness has set in.. but a RAPID, BLINDFOLD SIMUL display now that would be fun
Mar-31-06  suenteus po 147: <Open Defense> The blindfold games are rapid.

I don't know how they determine the overall winner of the tournament, but Vallejo-Pons was robbed! He came in second in BOTH events. That should be worth something.

Open Defence: <Vallejo-Pons was robbed! He came in second in BOTH events. That should be worth something> Imagine if by applying some tie break system out there he actually was adjudged the winner!
Mar-31-06  Illogic: Vallejo finished in a tie for fourth in the rapid.

<TheBB> You think, just maybe, that his first language isn't English? And that your grammar knowledge doesn't impress anyone?

Mar-31-06  Ragh: <Open Defense> that is true. Perhaps <suenteus po 147> should come up with some sort of tie-break rule that can make Vallejo-pounce as the winner ahead of Anand and Moro.
Mar-31-06  yalie: with an alternative scoring system vallejo can finish ahead of Moro only not Anand .. Anand dominates Vallejo - tied in blindfold and ahead in rapid.

By the way, when Anand won the tournament in 2003?, he won the combined, but was second in both rapid and blindfold.

Mar-31-06  yalie: There was a spanish website someone had posted a few days ago which gives the results of all tournaments to date in Spain and the rest of Europe. Does anybody remember the site?
Apr-03-06  blingice: Ooh, Aronian would've done better at the 66th Armenian Championship (2006).
Apr-28-06  JordanKwiatek: Forgot to congradulate you on your supremly convincing result here in the Blindfold section at Amber. ***Morozevich*** CLEARLY THE GREATEST BLIDFOLD PLAYER IN THE WORLD!!!
