Bad Sliac (1932) |
Bad Sliac is a spa town in central Slovakia. The tournament took place from 1st to
28th June 1932. Play was daily from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. and at the same time there was a tournament for the Slovak Championship. Aron Nimzowitsch and Mir Sultan Khan were also invited. Nimzowitsch dropped out due to his unacceptable financial conditions. Sultan Khan withdrew because he would have been overloaded, as he was playing in the British Championship and also in Bern. Akiba Rubinstein was expected to play, but travel problems prevented his attendance and he was replaced by May at the last minute. The prizes were: 5000, 3500, 2200, 1600, 1200, 1000 and 800 Czech Crowns. (1) Efim Bogoljubov had a poor tournament losing against the top players and relying on beating the tail-enders. Rudolf Spielmann wrote the tournament book, published in Vienna.
