Jun-07-09 | | virginmind: game ended and i can see more white pieces if i am not wrong. white has a knight up on the table |
Jun-07-09 | | hand banana: magnus won a piece, and then he had B+N+p against N+p. then he managed to trap ivanchuk's N, and ivanchuk resigned. that's what i managed to catch on the camera |
Jun-07-09 | | Aspirador: thanks, hope they'll post the correct score. |
Jun-07-09 | | Rolfo: Congratulations to Carlsen!! |

Jun-07-09 | | malthrope: Congrats Magnus - you are the <"Battle Royal!"> :D |
Jun-07-09 | | sheaf: after 3 rapid matches, 2 were decided on a tiebreak...and only decisive match in rapid control was between ivanchuck and morozevich +1.!!...most evenly matched field I should say.. |
Jun-07-09 | | drnooo: Something totally unfathomable to me when looking at how these great minds come up with solutions to blitz: instead of stupid-silly chess and the crazy detour into five minutes vrs four draw odds, or something equally bizarre, say 30 seconds per game and whoever knocks over the first piece loses....how come not just randomly set up the damn things. Now nobody can rely on memory, (other than a mild recollection what they had for breakfast,) and now both thrown back totally on their own resources: my guess is with random chess for the tiebreaker, the tie would be snapped off completely. Probably very few draws in randowm at five minutes, they are playing with all the regular pieces, regular five minute time limit for both and no excuses. Of course, it won't happen, instead we will go on getting these freak shows: I admit the five four business is great, but so is roulette. Or give them an hour break between two games and let em keep playing into the night. By then everyone but they will have gone home and nobody will care who won. Which, I, for one with these five four things already don't. |
Jun-07-09 | | blacksburg: it's a blitz event, no one should take it too seriously, or get too mad about the armageddon junk. but when a tie in a classical time control event is broken by an armageddon game, it's time to get mad. |
Jun-07-09 | | drnooo: The underlying complaint of mine here, I guess is an weird impluse anymore seen by organizers to inject so called excitement into the game. Why not have someone between the players with a blank 45 and shoot it off to start the games. That would work. 20 minute games are fine, even a tourney, but even the armegeddon thing is twisted: why not 2, one for each player. Then if its still a draw come up with another stupid twist, but at least give each guy one crack at the plate with the same bat. Or is it really that, hey we have been here long enough, lets play one more stupid game and we can all go home. This last game by Carlsen seems, at least to me, an utter perversion of even the fast games these guys played so briliantly. |
Jun-07-09 | | jurado96: ok magnus
he was down again
and won |
Jun-07-09 | | sheaf: <blacksburg>to my knowledge a classical time control match has never been decided by an armageddon ( the game which IM krush lost, I forget her opponents name, was a blitz and not aramageddon..can someone confirm this ?!..) |
Jun-07-09 | | rogge: I remember Candidates Match: Aronian-Carlsen (2007) Aronian won the blitz tie breaker, but it would've been decided by armageddon if still tied. |
Jun-07-09 | | virginmind: zatonskih won against krush and it was armageddon |
Jun-07-09
 | | alexmagnus: Zatonskih-Krush was Armageddon but there there were neither rapid nor blitz tiebreakers. |
Jun-07-09
 | | alexmagnus: In the entire World Cup 2007 there was exactly <one> Armageddon game. |
