Nutcracker Match of the Generations (2020)

The 6th Nutcracker tournament took place in the Botvinnik Central Chess Club in Moscow, Russia from 4-9 March 2020. It saw a team of Kings (Tomashevsky, Gelfand, Shirov, Najer) play Scheveningen matches in classical and rapid chess against a team of Princes (Sarana, Esipenko, Yuffa, Lomasov). Each player first played a Classical game (90 minutes/40 moves + 30 minutes till the end of the game, with a 30-second increment from move 1) against each member of the opposing team. They then played two Rapid games (15 minutes + a 10-second increment) against each opposing player. The classical games were worth double, i. e. 2 points for a win and 1 point for a draw. The organizers were the Chess Federation of Russia and the Ladya Foundation. Tournament director: Mark Gluhovsky. Chief arbiter: Dmitry Shakhov.
