As I mentioned earlier, I played Lance Darling around this time; he was rated 1965, and obviously would not have fallen for this through ignorance. "NWC April" undoubtedly means the April issue of Northwest Chess magazine, and we all know what happens in April. I seem to remember Darling being from Oregon, so he probably knew what was going on. Of course, I also remember he had a very attractive girl friend who sat next to him during our game. She probably distracted me more than him, but you never know... |

I was known for playing always the French or QGD and responded here with 1.-e6 too. My opponent said "More attack" and pushed 2.g4. I replied: "That's a good idea" and ended the game with 2.- Qh4#. |
