Jun-26-12  agb2002: Black has the bishop pair for a bishop, two knights and three pawns.

The knight on b1 prevents mate at once with 13... Bb4+. Therefore, 13... Qxb1+, getting rid of the defender:

A) 14.Rxb1 Bb4#.

B) 14.Kd2 Bb4#.

Jun-26-12  lost in space: 13...Qxb1+! 14. Rxb1 (14. Kd2 Bb4#) 14..Bb4#

Nice!

Jun-26-12  gambler: Hassan:
I did it the exact same way. It feels very natural to play the bishop there ins such a position.
Jun-26-12  Eyal: Black was so "preoccupied" with developing his pieces that he missed a rather simple win as early as move 9, with ...Ne5 (10.Qg3 Nd3+, or 10.Qd5 Nd3+ [Qc2 is good too] followed by Nxf2).
Jun-26-12  mohannagappan: 13 ...Qxb1+ 14 Rxb1 or Kd2 Bb4#
Jun-26-12  whiteshark: <13...Qxb1+> and that's it.
Jun-26-12  romni: Ravikumar! Wow...thats a blast from the past!...I remember playing some 5 minute games with him, way back in the day...needless to say I didn't get much of a 'look-in'.
Jun-26-12  zb2cr: This is a pretty little mate. 13. ... Qxb1+; 14. Rxb1, Bb4#. If 14. Kd2, Bb4#!

Richard Taylor: Ouch!! Nd4 is nice...
Jun-26-12  James D Flynn: White is a piece and 3 pawns up but Black’s pieces are aggressively placed. He must clearly act quickly to take advantage of his mobility. The obvious candidate is Rxb2 threatening Rxb1 and Bb4+. The latter is a mating threat because when the N interposes BxN would be mate. Hey, wait a moment , only the N stops Bb4+ mating immediately and Black can take that N with his Q . 13……..Qxb1+ and whether White plays 41.Rxb1 or Kd2 Bb4+ is mate.
Jun-26-12  desiobu: Nd4! was a brilliant move (threatening Nc2+ besides the game line).

Jun-26-12  kevin86: Mate in two:Qxb1+ and the bishop mates ,whether or not the queen is taken.

Looks more like a Monday puzzle.

Jun-26-12  BOSTER: This combo began with move 10...Nd4!,playing which black have already seen the final mate with bishop b4. This is position before move 10...Nd4

Is this combo really correct?

paulalbert: Easy: Boden's mate after Qxb1ch, but a little different formation than I'd seen before. Very nice!
Jun-26-12  drnooo: how about whites position is such a mess that about twenty five moves of black win
Jun-26-12  1stboard: " FSR: <InspiredByMorphy: White could have also played 3.Nf3 Does anybody have any thoughts on the strength of this move compared to 3.exd6 ?> "

I agree, 3 Nf3 ( or at least on move # 4 played Nf3 ) a much better move than what was played. Also as you state ( Morphy ) Knights before Bishops , white seemed to get into all sorts of trouble after his actual move 4 c3 (?)

Jun-26-12  waustad: My first thought was a rook sac on a2. I guess there was better. I do better on these when I look at them in the morning. It is brew week in Athens, OH and I then made the first batch of basil pesto, so red wine was in order, so ..... I guess my patzer level may be even worse than usual. Microbrew pints have a LOT more alcohol than a Strohs.

lol

So both sides offer a gambit on their turn. A total of 3 gambits in one opening. Hilarious.

1.f4 e5 (Gambit #1 From Gambit)
2.e4 (Gambit #2 King's Gambit)
2..d5! (Gambit #3 Falkbeer Counter Gambit)

So what does White play next? 3.d4?!

White played a lot of stupid moves: c3, Bxf6, Qf3 . . .

Jun-26-12  Nullifidian: Boden's mate with:

13... ♕xb1+ 14. ♖xb1/♔d2 ♗b4#

Jun-27-12  EXIDE: Spent all of my time trying to make Qc2 work. It does not. Missed the easy move!!

3.fxe5?? Qh4+ 4.Ke2? Qxe4+ 5.Kf2 Bc5+ is a true King's Gambit: White gambits his king.

O Rigaud vs J Cooper, 1974

Dec-13-22  Messiah: Terrible play.
