chancho: Garry: Thanks for the Rook, Liem.

Liem: Whaaaaaaaat??

Aug-16-17  Whitehat1963: Ooops!!
Aug-16-17  Monocle: One of the more bizarre things I've seen in grandmaster chess. Garry had like, 20 seconds left and Le was under no pressure at all.
Aug-16-17  morfishine: Please folks, this was just a slip, Black had been shuttling rook between e7 & e6 and just used e8 by accident

*****

Aug-16-17  ChessHigherCat: Rook out!
Aug-16-17  beenthere240: Garry returns to form!!!
Aug-16-17  beenthere240: The best way to refute a sacrifice is to accept it. 41. Bxe8!!! shows that Garry is back in form! Perhaps a Saturday POD?
Aug-16-17  The Kings Domain: My first thought after the last move was played: Rigged.

I never thought Chess would go the way of Boxing.

Aug-16-17  JASAHA: Frodo: Pity he didn't spare the rook
Gandolf: It was pity that made him take the rook.
Aug-16-17  maelith: Blunders like this with no time pressure is not uncommon at top level chess.

Aug-17-17  Sokrates: Sorry for both of them. Liem, evidently, but also Kasparov, if his only win shall be by this terrible blunder.
Aug-17-17  Monocle: <The Kings Domain: My first thought after the last move was played: Rigged.

One would think a 2700+ grandmaster could find a slightly more subtle way of throwing a game than simply putting a rook en prise.

This is what it feels like when you hit the lottery.

Aug-17-17  diagonal: Compare So vs. Duda: https://www.365chess.com/game.php?g...

The 2017 Leon Masters (Rapid Mini-tournament with four invited players) will be remembered for one of the most extraordinary blunders you’ll ever see from one of the world’s best players.

In the first game of his semi-final against Jan-Krzysztof Duda, Wesley So who eventually won the whole shebang, blundered his queen on move 17 and had no choice but to resign.

Ah, these cruel bishops..
