An Englishman: Good Morning: Interesting choice of defense by Carlsen, for two reasons. First, during the past 10 years of games in the CG database (after 9.Nc3), Black has gotten clobbered, often brilliantly. Second, Carlsen hasn't played in any of those games. Bet White did not imagine that he would face this opening.
May-29-24  Atking: These Knights are better than these Bishops...

eternaloptimist: Good morning/afternoon/evening guys! <An Englishman> Thanks for your kibitz! It sheds some light on the recent history of this line of the Sicilian Defense (Kan variation). Although I think of the Kan as being 1 of the most solid variations of the Sicilian but there r certain lines of good variations that aren't some of the best lines to play. Carlsen’s backward pawn on d6 isn't going to help Carlsen’s chances in this game for sure especially considering that Pragg has the Maroczy bind set up (kibitz made @ move 19)

OhioChessFan: Black to make his 23rd move. White has more space and a little better developed. Black has the Bishop and his Pawns aren't quite as extended. Seems pretty even. Looking at SF........

Wow, it says +1.46.

Check It Out: Black has the queenside initiative, but whites kingside storm is coming.

Check It Out: Blacks going to have to turtle up because of whites back rank pressure. Can he granby roll out of it?

Check It Out: Once white gets doubled up on the broadcast file the 7th and 8th rank pressure will be difficult for black to handle. Carlsens been known to wriggle out of a spot or three, we'll see...

OhioChessFan: I guess Carlsen has some ideas of a perpetual with Qc1/f4.

OhioChessFan: I was fully on board the Ferocious Ali bandwagon not that long ago, so I'll try to avoid over-expecting from Pragg.

OhioChessFan: Yes, I sort of noticed back at Black's 23rd he couldn't castle yet! I didn't realize he'd never get the chance.
May-29-24  fisayo123: Wow, MC annihilated by Pragg!

eternaloptimist: <OCF> yep this is over & yes lol get the dancing rook ready. Carlsen should've chosen a different line. <An Englishman> pointed out on this page that this isn't a good line for black. I noticed that Carlsen didn't castle either. Quite often u will pay for that vs a player as strong as Pragg. Of course there r situations when u don't need to castle but this game isn't 1 of those situations. Carlsen didn't move his kside rook til move 35! About all it did for a pretty good while is defend his h-pawn from Pragg’s Queen. Carlsen has pretty much played a piece down for the vast majority of this game. Yes thx for the game

Check It Out: Part of the deal is that Vishy gets dancing rook credit for all of India's success.
May-29-24  Atking: It should happen. Even the first game vs Nakamura was dubious. Carlsen is taking chess too lightly these last years and more and less as an entertainment. He has talent and still WC class but...

Susan Freeman: Shocking. I like it!
May-30-24  Chessinfinite: Congrats to GM Pragg on beating Magnus. Nice to see India's top players taking over from Anand, and beating a former world champion makes it better for Pragg.
May-30-24  Diademas: Why does the dancing rook show a picture of Anand?

Sally Simpson: ...the dancing Rook has Anand's face on it?

This is C.G. getting into the swing of things with this totally meaningless qualifies for nothing pointless over-hyped event. It won't even qualify as a FIDE event for the candidates, the minimum number of players is 8.

It is serving no useful purpose other than an insignificant claim to be yet another strongest event ever. (Which includes a world champion who says his ambition in this event is not to finish last!)

May-30-24  fisayo123: Vishy's face? Lol this has gotta be racist 😅
