Jun-09-09  WhiteRook48: who needs the list of rules?

Tabanus: Played in Wilna, not Vienna?
Oct-13-16  hemy: <Tabanus> At the summer vacation of 1910, List returned to Wilna. The Wilna Chess Club manager, Abram Isaakovich Rabinovich, invited Grigory Levenfish to play a match with List. The match between the two young talented players stopped after nine games (+4 -4 =1) because of the end of the summer vacation.

Tabanus: Ok. I'd like to put "Vilnius LTU", but felt forced to put "Wilna (Vilnius), Russian Empire".

"Wilna, Russian Empire"? The Russian Empire has no country code.

Oct-13-16  hemy: The Russian Empire is not exist since February 1917. No country and no country code.

Tabanus: Well, we could make one perhaps.

I made some madness earlier over at Game Collection: Russian Empire Country Codes 1917-1991, please check!

Oct-14-16  hemy: In real database the country code have to be unique. The International Olympic Committee uses 3 digits country code RU1 for Russian Empire.

Tabanus: And (except for R on cars) I can not find any other codes used for the Russian Empire. Perhaps the chess world can adopt it (or find proof/pictures of a code used before 1917). To add to the historical list at bottom of the FIDE Country Codes page. It would be "pre-FIDE" though.

Maybe Black lost on time. But in any case, after 31.Qd6 there is no good answer to the threats of Qc6+ and Re1+.

Sargon: I think we should stick with Vilna LIT for Lithuania, which is easiest to understand, but I'll set it to RUE (Russian Empire) if that's preferred.

Tabanus: Lithuania is LTU from 1918-1940 and 1990-2018, and URS between 1940 and 1990. Before 1918: RUE (as agreed)

Hence Vilna (Vilnius) RUE
