Sep-15-05 | | Perkins: A very sexy game. I guess you don't often associate Rubinstein with sexy, but this game is hot. |
Sep-15-05 | | ughaibu: "You don't often associate Rubinstein with sexy", has anyone other than Rubinstein won four brilliancy prizes in one tournament? |
Sep-15-05 | | WMD: Has any other tournament offered four brilliancy prizes? |
Sep-15-05 | | Runemaster: <WMD: Has any other tournament offered four brilliancy prizes?> LOL. On the Goldsby-Nakamura page, there has been discussion of computer assisted opponents (who might just be computers) in online games. I have long suspected that WMD is a computer-assisted kibitzer (or maybe just a kibitzing computer) using a programme designed to make quick, incisive, amusing and sometimes annoying comments. I think the computer is probably ORAC from "Blake's Seven" and WMD is Avon. [Apologies to non-UK kibitzers who most likely won't get these references.] I mean this as a compliment, WMD, and I'm sure you'll take it that way. |

Sep-15-05 | | percyblakeney: <Runemaster>'s theory that some commentary actually is performed by kibitzing computers seems plausible. Some lines come way too fast, and many of them return over and over again in the same discussions. Kibfritzing (often connected to expressions like "Kramnik", "USA" and "First") could well be the death of classical kibitzing. The only way to make the discussions less predictable might be random kibitzing, and it has already been in practice among some kibitzers for a while, especially in the Kibitzer's Café. |

Sep-15-05 | | Norman Glaides: Not particularly impressed with today's pun. |
Sep-15-05 | | Runemaster: <Percy> Thanks for the support. I notice from your profile that one of your favourite films is "Wild Strawberries" (not that surprising, as you are Swedish). I love it as well, although my all-time favourite Bergman film - or film by any director - is "The Seventh Seal". From your name, I presume that "The Scarlet Pimpernel" must be one of your favourite books/films. |
Sep-15-05 | | percyblakeney: <Runemaster> I think The Seventh Seal and Wild Strawberries are the two best Swedish films ever, 1957 sure was a good year for Bergman... As for The Scarlet Pimpernel I haven't even read the books. I had just seen the film when I registered here and couldn't come up with a user name. If I had known I would spend so much time here I would probably have chosen something better, like, well, I still don't know what... |
Sep-15-05 | | Runemaster: ...like Isak Borg, Max von Sydow, Antonius Bloch, Death... |
Sep-15-05 | | chessic eric: Can anybody see if 23.Bxb7 helps white out?? |
Sep-15-05 | | Runemaster: <chess eric> 23.Bxb7 is discussed on page 1 of this kibitzing - the consensus seems to be that 23...Rxg3 is strong for Black. |
Sep-15-05 | | percyblakeney: Death is quite good at chess in the film, so maybe I'd choose that one if I ever start multiple accounts... Yep, 23. Bxb7 is better than gxh4, but won't help far after Rxg3 which can be followed by Rh3. |
Sep-15-05 | | jumperino: If 23. Bxb7, then Rxg3 and should be easy win from there as there's no good way to defend the h2 square without losing the queen. |

 | | keypusher: <chessic eric> This is from AJ's site: Or 23.Bxb7 Rxg3; 24.Rf3, (Or 24.Bf3 Nxh2!; " " and Black has a winning
attack against the exposed White King.) 24...Rxf3; 25.Bxf3 Nf2+;
26.Kg1, Forced? (Or 26.Kg2? Qh3+ ; 27.Kg1 Ne4+ ; 28.Kh1 Ng3#).
26...Ne4+; 27.Kf1 Nd2+; 28.Kg2 Nxf3; 29.Qxf3, What else?
(Or 29.Kxf3 Qh5+) 29...Rd2+; " " Black has a winning attack. ]. http://www.angelfire.com/games3/AJs... |

Sep-15-05 | | kevin86: Mr. Rubinstein's game was so good,he could afford to give up a queen and rook and the exchange--three pieces in two moves!! Somehow, the game seemed over from the start-everything bearing down on the white king! |
Sep-15-05 | | PurpleKnight25: Wow. Great finish and definetly one of the most beatifull combinations that leave your opponent breathless!!. |
Sep-16-05 | | I Pawn You: Welp. I think this is a great game. But I also think that Game of the Day should be dedicated to games that are not as well known as this.
Anyone with me?
/me raises fist in the air.

this is not my wording, look at sentence structure..........hmmmm pathetic hackers here |

Sep-26-05 | | BreakOnThru: After just sacrificing his Queen with 22...Rxc3!! Rubinstein then sacrifices a Rook by playing a most superb and sublime move 23...Rd2!!! Follow this up with 25...Rh3! to which there is no possible reply, and we have one of the greatest games of all time. Definitely Rubinstein's immortal game. |
Oct-09-05 | | Nightwalk: Magnificent game. It's so good that if Rotlewi was a good sport, he would have felt honored to be a part of the game. It's too bad Rubinstein never became World Champion; with games like these, he could have rivaled Capablanca and Alekhine. |
Dec-17-05 | | DeepBlade: The Queen sacrifice was spacial (not special but SPACE-ial) to gain space, for his !!! Rook, sacs the Rook to lure the Queen away for not taking his Knight (part of the mate pattern), pinns the Queen and pushes his Rook to h3. Genius! |
