May-28-05  paladin at large: 18. Rf3 is a bad move, leading as it does, to the loss of control of the c-file to black's rook, a few moves later.

How is White supposed to defend the d-pawn? He must have gone wrong earlier.

Thanks for pointing this game out, I'd never seen it.

perfidious: In my opinion, Black has equalised by the time he gets 11....Qa5 in, and Tartakower's plan of trading off the bad bishop is strategically sound, but his remaining pieces get in a tangle while Black's gain great activity.

GrahamClayton: Tartakower sacrifices the exchange with 40. Re3+ in a desperate attempt to free his position, but Reshevsky wins easily by advancing his a-pawn.

White has barely got a move at the point that he sacrifices the exchange, e.g. 40.Ke1? Ra1+. The engine points out 40.Nh7 Ra1 41.Nc3 Rf1+ 42.Ke2 Rxf3 43.Kxf3 dc 44.Kxe3 Bd4+ 45.Ke2 c2 46.Kd2 Be3+ 47.Kxc2 Bxf4 trapping the knight.
