  GrahamClayton: White resigned after the brilliant 11...♗c2!, due to either 12. ♕xc2 ♕xd4+ 13. ♔e2 ♗xc3 14. bxc3 ♖e8+, winning the Queen, or 12. ♕d2 ♘g4+ 13. ♔f4 ♗d6+ 14. ♔xg4 ♗f5+ 15. ♔xf5 ♕h4, and mate is unavoidable.
Jan-19-20  Cheapo by the Dozen: Remarkable game. Per the engine, Black's initial two-pawn sacrifice was sound.

Astoundng game, actually, given that it was via correspondence.

perfidious: <Cheapo>, this line of the Scandinavian proved hazardous indeed to the unwary for a time in the mid 1990s, and I was prepared to play it as Black if ever given the chance.

An Englishman: Good Evening: Can still recall the concern amongst my fellow club members when someone started playing the Portuguese and crushing people. Learning that 5.Bb5+! spoils Black's fun came as a great relief to the 1.e4 adherents.

FSR: 11...Bc2! is most accurate. Black played less precisely with 11...Nxd4 in S Norris vs K Coventry, 1998 and the rapid game S Vaibhav vs Carlsen, 2018 (yes, THAT Carlsen), but nonetheless won.

After 11...Bc2!, White soldiered on with 12.Qd2 Ng4+ 13.Kf4 Bd6+ 14.Kxg4 Bf5+ 15.Kxf5 Qh4 16.g4 Re8 0-1 in G Hetenyi vs C Rakaczki, 2012. The present game was a correspondence game, giving White ample time, and the ability to move pieces around on the board, to realize just how dead he was.

Teyss: These bullet games, prone to short miniatures.

To complete <FSR>'s post on the opening, in J Hvenekilde vs B Undheim, 2014 Black played 11...Qe7+ and the game was drawn.

Earlier don't try 7.exf7+ which gave for White +0 -8 =1 but 7.Be3 Opening Explorer

Jul-28-24  goodevans: A cracking GOTD and an excellent pun to go with it. 👍
