Apr-01-09  whiteshark: Today I'll agree with you.
Apr-01-09  LaFreak II: What a joke
Apr-01-09  alfa.vimapa: whaaaaaat? Nimzowitsch played this ugly game? there must be a mistake!
Apr-01-09  ChesterTheJester: Happy April Fool's everyone!
Apr-01-09  Everyone: Happy April Fool's <ChesterTheJester>!
Apr-01-09  apexin: How do you know that the moves were flawed? Maybe in 3-5 years computer proves that Nimzo was right. He was a genius after all.
Apr-01-09  JG27Pyth: !!! :) !!! Kmoch's writing/game creation here is wonderful! He skewers Nimzo without being truly mean, or unfunny. The note to 21.Nf3! ... "Note the aesthetic effect created by White's position," had me literally snorting with joy.

The only thing missing, and I think it's a serious flaw in the composition, is that at least one annotation should include a long anecdotal digression revealing what a pitiable figure Dr. Tarrasch is.

Apr-01-09  kevin86: The paradox to this "funny" game is that it works!

Happy April Fool!

Apr-01-09  wanabe2000: I now have to wait four more years for this game (composition) to appear again! Reading the early notes from 2005 was as hilarious as the game itself! I think jaymthegenius posts were written by Hans Kmoch as well! Remember to overprotect e6 in the French! Exclamation points for everything!
Apr-01-09  Eduardo Leon: I can't help but laugh my ass off! The game was rather stupid, but the annotations are pure genius!

gawain: I enjoyed that! Thanks, Chessgames.
Apr-01-09  Marmot PFL: Nimzo played his very best games without an opponent.
Apr-01-09  miseiler: This is pure genius.
Apr-01-09  beenthere240: 18....Rc6 is a delightful self-interference move since it block's light squared bishop from checking the white king on a4.

20...Re8 and 21...Bf8 help complete the self mate.

fm avari viraf: Kmoch-'Naturally not 5...Nc6 then 6.Bb5! etc.' But Black would win the Bishop by 6...Qa5+. Was it April Fool?
Apr-01-09  znprdx: <Marmot PFL: Nimzo played his very best games without an opponent.> now THIS is truly very FUNNY - thanx!! As a game creator - this was just too delightful
Apr-01-09  Dredge Rivers: I dunno. I think there might be an improvement somewhere for Black. :)
Apr-01-09  znprdx: <wanabe2000: I now have to wait four more years for this game (composition) to appear again!> I don't get it?? AFD has nothing to do with Leap Year... which it isn't...
Apr-01-09  th3jamez: this is stupid lol... after 21.nf3 black has a forced mate in 2 with qb1+ lol
Apr-01-09  apexin: mindless self indulgence is a good band though... but i dont know did they have kind of thing in Nimzo's times
Apr-01-09  WhiteRook48: this was game of the day before!
Apr-01-09  Dredge Rivers: Systemsson should have known better than to use the French Defense. After all the French don't put up a defense, they surrender immediately! :)
Apr-01-09  zdigyigy: Thanks <chess games>, for a good laugh! The annotations are priceless.
Apr-01-09  gustavoarsilva: This game is the last one in Raymond Keene's excellent book "Aron Nimzowitsch: a reappraisal". It is a bogus game, a fiction created by Hans Kmoch, poking fun at Nimzowitsch ponderous writing style. Nimzowitsch liked the pun very much, so Keene says.

Viewer Deluxe: As <Milo>, <Marco65>, <JohnTal>, <patzer2>, already pointed out 21...Qb1+ was winning for Black. Yes, it is a checkmate in four. Even bigger joke is that Black had three opportunities to play it. Now, White (being only a genius) missed a checkmate in four himself while playing the 23.Qh7. So altogether four checkmates in four were missed. Take a look: http://chesstuff.blogspot.com/2009/...
