Jul-13-08  Jesspatrick: A really nice win for this 17 year old FM.
Jul-29-08  Brettwith2ts: I have to play in a tournament with this 17-year-old FM next week!

Yikes!

Oct-18-19  spingo: A Jägermeister is a strong alcoholic drink. When thrown across the room it is known as a "chuck jäger".
Oct-18-19  morfishine: Yeagermaster would've worked

Jagermeister doesn't

Oct-18-19  paavoh: @morfishine: I agree that the pun was a bit weak - if one can say so about Jägermeister - but it wasn't me who picked it. Perhaps better suggestions were not around?

OhioChessFan: <paavoh>, <morf> is a morbidly unhappy soul who has wasted tons of bandwidth on this site whining about the puns. What kind of person would do this on a daily basis? In any case, yeah, not every pun is top quality. I've had a few recently I knew weren't my best, but so be it.
Oct-18-19  Cheapo by the Dozen: Why was Black the one to avoid a repetition at Move 28?
Oct-18-19  morfishine: Sorry <OhioNotSuchaBigChessFan> You got it backwards as usual. I don't whine about anything, I just state the facts

UR the biggest whiner on this site. You can't take people's criticism of these pathetic game titles. You can't take the heat. Your'e just a big whining immature cry-baby

So stick your pacifier back in your big fat mouth and stfu. Or better yet, run back to mommy so she can change your diaper

Oct-18-19  Messiah: What a highly cultured discussion!
Oct-18-19  morfishine: Yes <Messiah> as usual, <OhioChessFan> has nothing better to do but spew his venom at me; he's the very definition of a site troll. His comment is untrue about criticizing puns on a daily basis; I've gone months and not visited this site at all.

<OhioChessFan> has a sick obsession with attacking my criticism of the puns. Notice how he stays silent when others criticize the puns? He's a sick individual who should be banned from this site. The sooner, the better

Yes, another example of how emotions can escalate quickly on this site. <morfishine> cannot take criticism of any kind and immediately lashes out at anyone who does, violating several of <chessgames.com>'s posting guidelines in the process. He has me on his ignore list (not that I care) because of some past perceived insult on my part. I tried to explain that he misunderstood me and why but, because he has me on his ignore list, he could not (more accurately, would not) see my attempt at explaining his misunderstanding and hopefully smooth things out. Which is a shame since we've had some good discussions about many subjects over the years.

And he loves to state his opinions as try to claim that they are "facts". Yes, "Yeagermeister" would have been a better pun than "Jägermeister" but the latter is adequate. Claiming that it isn't at all is just his opinion, not a fact.

He also takes refuge in literate meanings when it suits him. True, he doesn't literally whine about what he considers the meaninglessness of GOTD title puns every day but he does whine about it frequently and has being doing that for years. Which is a shame because he otherwise has many valuable insights to contribute to discussions.

Oct-18-19  newzild: Shouldn't <morfishine> be censured for his comments in this thread? Completely out of line.
Oct-18-19  thegoodanarchist: I see a few criticisms of <morfishine> on this thread.

What, exactly, was his crime? Here it is:

< morfishine: Yeagermaster would've worked

Jagermeister doesn't>

OMG OMG OMG! <morfishine> said <Jagermeister doesn't> work!

How horrible! How terrible! (Sarcasm alert!)

The only thing this man did is to say Jagermeister doesn't work as a pun.

And now he should be censured???

People, take a chill pill. We are here to discuss chess. We are going to disagree.

Let's not become Bolsheviks about it, where we suppress all dissent!

1. His endless, repetitive bitching about puns is well known to all, including you. 2. I think you may have missed a few of his posts on this page.

Hi Scott, and thank you for your reply. In my opinion, you are one of the most erudite commentators on this website, so I do take your comments seriously.

I saw all of the posts on the final page, which is the only page. Now, I do have some on my ignore list, but in any event the total pages of comments on this game cannot be much more than 1.

Subsequent replies by <morf> seem to be in response to <attacks> on <morf>.

Do we really need to have cg users attack someone for saying

<Yeagermaster would've worked

Jagermeister doesn't>?

Is this so awful a comment? No!

Yes, <morf> does comment negatively on GOTD puns more than most folks do.

Quite frankly, his frequency of doing so pales in comparison to the frequency of 1.) Carlsen trolls posting anti-Carlsen posts; 2) Fischer trolls posting anti-Fischer posts; and 3) Kasparov trolls posting anti-Kasparov posts; and 4) So trolls posting anti-So posts:

etc. etc. etc.

Of course there is no match for <Messiah> when it comes to endless, repetitive bitching.

Oct-19-19  WorstPlayerEver: I thought I just bitch-in 😇
Oct-19-19  whiteshark: Jägermeister® is wittily hysterical!

Cheers!

You obviously either didn't get it or choose to ignore it. The reason I took him to task has nothing to do with his opinion that "Yeagermaster would've worked, Jagermeister doesn't". That's his opinion and he's certainly entitled to it.

But when <OhioChessFan> posted that <morfishine> was "a morbidly unhappy soul who has wasted ton of bandwidth on this site whining about the puns" (another opinion), <morfishine relied that "I don't whine about anything, I just state facts".

No he doesn't; he states opinions and tries to pass them off as facts. And he has done that in the past almost as much as he keeps complaining about the GOTD puns. The second one he's certainly entitled to do even though it has become very boring and predictable. But the first one is just being hypocritical.

And <he> is saying that <OhioChessFan> is "a sick individual who should be banned from this site. The sooner, the better." Isn't that very "Bolshevik" of him? Heaven forbid that someone dares to disagrees with him!

Oct-19-19  WorstPlayerEver: Ah, I didn't understand why all the consternation about some pun, but I got it now: striPUNsky
