 | | perfidious: <Alien Math> That was for variety's sake; today they didn't want to play it out to the end, so brought matters to the inevitable peaceful conclusion a move sooner. When the sisters Kosintseva play in the same event, I wonder whether the arbiter arranges the draw so that they avoid meeting in a late round. |

Aug-07-12 | | SimonWebbsTiger: I have a solution. Don't invite them. Yes they are good. Yes they are lovely girls. These games are a complete mockery of chess. I would ban them in a heartbeat until they realise they must play chess and forget their family connection. Such a arranged draw could lose a place or prize money for someone else in a tie break. |

Aug-07-12 | | master of defence: Why the Kosintseva sisters only draw when they play? And it´s the same game almost every time. |

No you don't. LTJ would post he is playing one of the girls and scored 10 million (par=1) as per usual. |

 | | HeMateMe: Whenever I see there is a new K-girl game, I get this visage of two pubescent, shy, gawky school girls, each wearing a pink backpack with a teddy bear imprinted on each pack, as they amble over to the chessboard. Before, during, and after the game there is gossip about: 1. Who is wearing what, at this tournament.
2. Which female player is chasing which male player(s)? 3. Which international celebrity has done someting really embarrassing (Bruce Jenner gets his anus bleached) and who is tweeting on that particular topic? Then, as an afterthought, the game ends in 12 moves. Off to the ladies room, then fire up the Ipods. |

 | | OBIT: OK, so the two loving sisters don't feel like competing with each other and would rather just rattle through a non-game to get to a quick three-fold repetition (thereby circumventing the Sofia rules), pack up their chess set, and go shopping. I don't see a problem with that. Don't get your jock straps in a bunch, guys. I'm thinking, though, that the Kosintseva girls may be working harder than they have to. Like, it takes 14 moves to produce their three-fold repetition, and I know there are ways to do this faster. For example, I know there is a line in the Najdorf Sicilian with the possible continuation 6. Be3 Ng4 7. Bc1 Nf6 8. Be3 Ng4 9. Bc1 Nf6, reaching the three-fold rep in nine moves. Is there an even faster way to achieve a three-fold rep with reasonable play? Note the requirement is for *reasonable* moves. Being the sneaky devils that they are, grandmasters can't be trusted to stick to a prematch agreement to play, for example, 1. Nf3 Nf6 2. Ng1 Ng8, etc. because the Black player may double-cross his opponent and play something like 2...d5 or 2...e5. So, with that stipulation, what's the fastest way to get to a three-fold repetition and make a mockery of the Sofia rules? |
